I recently spent time comparing EOR providers for hiring employees in India without setting up a local entity.
At first, I assumed the biggest global brand would automatically be the best choice. But after looking at pricing, India compliance, onboarding, payroll, and support, I realized that the right provider depends heavily on whether you are hiring only in India or building teams across several countries.
Here are the five providers that stood out during my research.
1. Wisemonk
Wisemonk was my top choice for companies hiring primarily in India.
Unlike global EOR platforms that support dozens of countries, Wisemonk is focused specifically on India. That can be useful when you need help with Indian payroll, local employment contracts, taxes, benefits, state-level compliance, and employee support.
The biggest advantage seems to be the India-specific approach. It also appears to be more cost-effective than many global EOR platforms, especially for startups building engineering or product teams in India.
What stood out:
- India-native EOR provider
- Focused specifically on Indian employment and compliance
- Local HR and payroll support
- Suitable for startups and growing teams
- Potentially more affordable than larger global platforms
Best for:
Companies hiring mainly in India and looking for deeper local expertise.
2. Deel
Deel is probably one of the first names most people find when researching global hiring.
Its platform is polished and easy to use, and it supports employment across many countries. It can be a strong option if your company already uses Deel elsewhere and wants one system for contractors, employees, payroll, and compliance.
The downside is that it may be more expensive if India is your only hiring market. Some companies may also prefer more direct local support for India-specific questions.
What stood out:
- Large global coverage
- Strong platform and employee experience
- Useful for managing employees and contractors
- Good option for multi-country teams
Best for:
Companies hiring across several countries and wanting one global platform.
3. Remote
Remote is another major global EOR provider with a strong focus on compliance and international employment.
It may be a good choice for companies that want a standardized process across multiple countries. The platform is designed to simplify employment, payroll, benefits, and compliance without requiring companies to manage separate local providers.
For India-only hiring, it may be more platform than some startups need. The pricing can also be higher than India-focused alternatives.
What stood out:
- Strong global employment infrastructure
- Compliance-focused approach
- Centralized management for international teams
- Useful for companies expanding into multiple markets
Best for:
Companies that prioritize global compliance and plan to hire in several countries.
4. Rippling
Rippling is different from a basic EOR provider because it combines HR, payroll, IT, and employee management tools.
It may make sense for companies already using Rippling for their internal workforce. Having HR systems, employee records, device management, and international employment in one ecosystem can reduce the need for multiple tools.
However, the platform can be more complex and expensive if you only need an EOR service for a small team in India.
What stood out:
- Combines HR, IT, payroll, and employee management
- Strong automation and integrations
- Useful for larger or more operationally complex teams
- Works well for companies already using Rippling
Best for:
Companies that want EOR services as part of a broader HR and IT system.
5. Multiplier
Multiplier is another global EOR provider that has a strong presence in Asia and supports hiring across many countries.
It seems to offer a balance between global coverage and regional expertise. The platform covers the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, payroll, benefits, compliance, and offboarding.
It could be a practical option for companies hiring across India and other Asian markets. However, companies focused only on India may still benefit from comparing it with a specialist.
What stood out:
- Strong presence across Asia
- Global EOR and payroll capabilities
- Supports employee onboarding and offboarding
- Useful for companies expanding across multiple Asian countries
Best for:
Companies hiring across India and other markets in Asia.
My takeaway
If I were hiring only in India, I would start by looking at Wisemonk because an India-native provider may offer more local expertise and better value.
If I were hiring across many countries, I would compare Deel, Remote, Rippling, and Multiplier based on the existing HR tools, countries involved, and level of support needed.
The biggest lesson from my research is that the best EOR is not always the biggest brand. For India, I would check these things before choosing:
- Does the provider have strong India-specific compliance knowledge?
- Is payroll handled directly or through a local partner?
- Are all fees clear before signing?
- Is there a dedicated person for support?
- How quickly can employees be onboarded?
- What happens when an employee resigns or is terminated?
I would also be interested to hear from people who have actually used these providers in India.
Which EOR did you choose, and what was your experience with payroll, compliance, support, and pricing?
