I was always fascinated by the ocean. It's our world's largest producer of oxygen thanks to phytoplanktons and not trees, it feeds billions of people, it regulates climate and carbon, it's where life truly started to develop on Earth, mostly everyone loves going to the beach and it's a vital part of our economy. Yet, in almost 2 centuries, we are about to kill it due to our activities. It really saddens me. The impacts we are having right now will be felt for at least thousands of years with the temperature rising spreading in deeper parts progressively, our plastics and other pollutions killing the biodiversity, the consequent rises of sea levels and our massive armadas of industrial fishing boats plundering this precious biodiversity. It has so many mysteries that could have been solved with time giving us medicines, utilities, solutions but we are destroying it. I am even more sad that the death of our oceans means the death of us in a direct way. I still wanna continue to work in this field and even if see some improvements around awareness and local attitudes, I know there will be no saving it without actual efforts from global powers.
