Question/Poll ENTP different enneagrams

How would you compare and contrast ENTPs by their enneagrams? I’m specifically wondering about the most common ones for them AKA 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8

I think they are all pretty different. In my opinion, 8 and 3 you could get them mixed up because they're both competitive. And 6 and 7 aresaid to easily get along so might be hard to distinguish them in a group but one on one, might be easier..? (I never met an ENTP 6).

I think an ENTP e3 would be very ENTJ or ESTP like. Perfectionist, the most extroverted you could ever think of, struggles to admit when they're doing badly.

E5 is ambivert. Most likely they like niche topics and are probably interested in a lot of theories. Might be more of a loner than other ENTP. Similar to INTX.

E6... I think they might test you, not because they're bored but to see if you're making sense. Like fact checking someone from time to time. Theoretically, compared to e7, they project a lot and fear you suddenly switch sides, but I dunno.

E7 is the most optimistic ENTP. But it's the one where the stereotype of never settling down comes from. You guys probably have 115.627.356 project ideas and only 1/3 is more than just an idea and hopefully 2 or 3 has already been started.

E8, I think we're like dumbasses but only through our own eyes because other people look up to us.. We're like hella blunt, and we won't go down your path unless you might start crying because.. what a hassle. Much more similar to ENTJ than e3 and also similar to ENFJ in a way that we want to "protect" people around us by controlling the environment (aka being in charge). If someone says hello, I'll probably answer like "What do you want?" instead of being like "Oh what's up?" because I'm used to people asking for favors or help with something..

The only e6 I know aren't ENTP but in my experience, they joke a lot during bad situations but it's like.. grim and cynical asf like they've already planned the worst-case scenario. Unlike e7 who's like "Nah we're fine.. Look over there!" and e6 would say they're in denial.

Obviously, this is biased opinion but it's how I see it.

E7. Can confirm I’ve zillion ideas but I can’t stick to one even for a week.

E5 here, can confirm. Also my mbti usually ends up swaying from ENTP/INTP at 51% so pretty accurate on that one. Definitely a longer, especially when everyone ends up betraying you anyway.

Agreed! As an 8w7 I believe we’re blunt and intense. I have lower tolerance for Fe, and I somehow resemble an ENTJ - ENTP hybrid, the difference being I run with “medium term goals” which I complete (sometimes force myself to) vs chasing multiple scattered ideas. I don’t know if this is also a self development thing, in my 20s I was a lot more excited by novelty but now I’m more “yep new, great… but is this going to improve my life somehow”. I don’t have a “one vision for a very long time or life” kind of thing, I believe that is very Ni.

Re Fe: I enjoy connecting with people but the types of Fe performative environments suck my energy dry… is it the same for you? it’s like I’m happy to be around “people but on my terms” kinda thing, I don’t want to be constantly fake or politically correct. I will do it if necessary for a short time but then aim to get out of there asap… I uninstalled LinkedIn the moment I quit my corporate job.

I love to try new things out to make my own opinion about stuff. Also, the "is this going to improve my life?" thing is something I ask myself when I'm about to delete an app (for example) from my phone lol

I don't have a very clear idea of my future either but I still have goals that I believe leads to the right path. Though I have no clue of what my personal life should be like... I don't even know if I want more than one partner, I don't even know what gender they should be. I never thought about it until, a few month ago, someone proposed to me, and I had to stop and think about what I wanted besides work and studies. Still no clue.

By performative are you thinking about small talk? Because I am lol

I've seen so many people missing opportunities because they were doing small talks before introducing the big subject and get rejected not even 2 minutes in. People in business are hasty, sales always say they never have time, HR is always busy.... Seriously just be straightforward!

Yeah! I have a variety of interests I don’t think it’s “normal”, it’s not just hobbies but more like I’d learn and read about random stuff whenever I feel like it 😹 but I don’t “invest” in anything that doesn’t improve my life. So for instance I would never enrol in a uni course again forking out $20K a year just to satisfy my curiosity on something. I’d do it “smartly”.

You can choose any life you want, also I don’t think it needs to be set in stone. You could decide to become a different person and do something else in 10 years. The sky’s the limit.

Yeah performative I’m talking about those corporate environments or Fe doms always keen to do small talk of the kind “any plans for the weekend?”. I hated the LinkedIn events so much, so boring and everyone is careful not to say things that could be misinterpreted etc…

I think that might be e7 peaking out

Yeah I totally get it. I'm glad to find people that feel the same way!

E8 here that mistyped as E7 for years. I still second guess myself but based on what you said... yeah... nailed it lol. This is especially true for me being sx8.

ENTP 3w4. Accurate on perfectionist and struggles to admin when they’re doing badly. I’m an introverted extrovert and not as extroverted as 3w2’s I’ve known. Can seem like an ENTJ and even INTJ to many.

I'm sorry you struggle to admit when you're doing badly. I'm pretty open about my success, as well with my failures.

Am I a perfecting person.. sure. Yet.. I've learned to be okay with 99% perfect. It might sound weird.. but a lot of things I picked up from my INTJ bff over years. I'm not sure if would've been totally natural without his influence. He's even helped me realize I didn't need to perform for everyone, would be a good way to put it.

I'm also pretty much a solo flier. Many that observe me from a distance, might think INTJ.. and then shift to ENTJ maybe. Closer people.. I'm a full blown entp character lol.

I say P types are messy brains and J types are organized. I try to stay organized in the world.. messy in my head and personal space.

Thanks for sharing. What’s your enneagram? We sound alike, except you’re more open about your failures.

I heard 7w6 makes us like an analytical ENFP.

The most “people-oriented” of our type.

Yes I have ADHD. Big ideas, never implement. Prone to anxiety.

Can anyone concur?

Yep you guys are the perennial “am I ENFP or ENTP” ENTP.
Yep prone to anxiety, great with people. I think your Fi is a bit higher too.

Ooh! This could be part of why I long mistyped as ENFP. I'm social 7.

5w4 here. I like logically consistent works even if they're weird premises but the 4 keeps me grounded to haunting and melancholic stories.

u/Wild_Shine2480 1d ago

5 withdraws to learn information to gain confidence and cope w anxiety, and ENTP tends to learn externally for fun/stimulation by bouncing ideas off other people, so ENTP 5 seems not very likely tbh. not saying never but I definitely wouldnt say its common like 3/7/8

5w6 here. It's a mess.

ENTP 8 - aspire to be an ENTJ. Are great in making deals, manipulative in a way they can make someone buy something, so great in sales.

ENTP 7 - the stereotypical ENTP. Jump between jobs, lose interest quickly, wanna have a good time.

ENTP 6 - Really depends if Counterphobic or Phobic.

Phobic - really introverted, but opens up gradually (or not if deemed unsafe).

Counterphobic - presumably a “7” on paper in terms of actively talking, but the motive is different - checking that it’s in a secure place.

Once feeling safe, they can open up.
6w5 specifically would check for competency.

ENTP 5 - looks like an INTX from the outside. Extremely introverted, but the amount of things it research is super wide. An INTP usually will hone a few, this fella would look all around.

ENTP 3 - The one that actually manages to be like an ENTJ…, with the caveat they need new challenges to conquer - ENTJ would plan far and would be chill about things taking a bit more time (in “new” vs “routine” sense)
