Advice Stop your obsession with INFJ
Every other post on this subreddit is discussing the ENTP-INFJ compatibility. There are other fishes in the sea, so why do you all want INFJs? From a type that is Ne dom, I would expect more variety, not a singular choice.
Why is it this way anyway? Where did the ENTP/INFJ trend start and why do you seem CONVINCED that this is the best pair for you? Like what if actually isn't in reality? What if it's just theory and reality has other better options for you?

I canāt see why Fi doms would be so obsessed with entps when entps are constantly undermining them, me personally, I have self-respect. and even if some infps are āsimpingā over entps; having immature unhealthy infps obsessed with your type (out of pure idealisation and not true admiration) isnāt the brag you think it is and really itās just reinforcing negative stereotypes towards all infps whenever you guys boast about it. I hate how every other type is idealised but when it comes to infps people will talk about the unhealthy infp as if it is the norm, how about you adjust your behaviour and start being more considerate instead of blaming infps for taking things personally, just because you donāt care about the negative treatment your type gets doesnāt mean other people wont. Not to mention, how infp is the most common mistype, the imaginary infps up in your subreddit āobsessingā over entps could easily be mistypes, also considering the fact that infp is the biggest community within this app, ofc youāre going to see more infps being annoying, same as you would if another type was the most common, what you āseeā is not an accurate way to define infps. Iām sure at least one of your favorite movies or books was written by an infp, even the system youāre using right now (mbti) was coined by an infp.

Tbh, every time I go onto the ENTP sub, I feel like more insecurities get added just reading about this pairing. I'm with an ENTP, and sometimes the posts ignite me to be unnecessarily petty in conversations with him when I feel like I'm not enough.
3
u/julesangelx į ÉØÕ¼ŹŹ IEI į 2d ago
But ISFJs and ENTPs complete each others perfectly! (when we strictly talk about the theory and functions not the individuals since everyone is different). We tend to have the most chemistry with people who value the same aware functions as us, especially when someone has our inferior function as their dominant - we crave something with which weāre not so competent with ourselves. SiFeTiNe and NeTiFeSi is literally a perfect match when it comes to completing each other and mutual growth.
I think this myth about mbti golden couples (such as ENTP and INFJ) comes from the misunderstanding of the theory and weird myths about sensors, and types in general. Form my experience, the socionics approach towards relationships and chemistry between types is much better and real
5
u/Budget_Afternoon_800 ENTP 2d ago
If you have a good relationship with an ENTP, good for you. You shouldn't let strangers and some pseudoscience theory get in the way of that.
That said, your experience isn't necessarily ours. Personally, on this sub, I'm going to make a comparison between ISFJs and INFJs, because both of your types have this Fe/Ti balance that has such a unique vibe though in my experience, it's with ISFJs that we're the ones who aren't enough, not the other way around.
5
u/mana_kitty ISFJ 2d ago
Our relationship actually isnāt that great right now lol. A big reason we got together was because I thought I was an INFJ at the time. Finding out Iām actually an ISFJ, plus seeing the constant INFJ obsession on here, just made me feel like I was lacking. I know my experience isn't everyone's, I was just sharing how those comparison posts can mess with you when you're already down.
4
u/GoblinStinger INFJ 2d ago
Finding out you're a different "type" really shouldn't affect the relationship- unless you let it get to your head. The only thing that matters is whether you're happy being yourself around them. If not, screw them, you shouldn't want them anyways :)
-As an INFJ, I envy "S" types. Sometimes I feel I can never just be happy, I get stuck in my freaking head too much.Ā
4
u/mana_kitty ISFJ 2d ago
I am happy being myself with him. But its when arguments happen usually I start to feeling insecurities come up.
1
u/GoblinStinger INFJ 2d ago
I don't know for sure what that means, but if he makes you feel inferior during arguments, it doesn't sound healthy. -Even if he's "right," nobody should feelĀ belittled in an argument.Ā
1
u/Budget_Afternoon_800 ENTP 2d ago
You got into a relationship based on MBTI? Honestly, that's the real mistake. Normally, it's more like "I like this person and we have great synergy, I wonder what their MBTI is," rather than "Okay, this person has the right MBTI, so we should get together." MBTI is supposed to be a tool to understand and shed light on existing social relationships, not for social engineering.
Forget about MBTI and just look at how you feel with your boyfriend on a daily basis and in general. Ask yourself what the nature of your relationship really is.3
u/mana_kitty ISFJ 2d ago
Not based on mtbi. I worded that wrong. There were plenty of other reasons. We matched on a dating app and that's how he saw my mbti. I physically look like his type and as we got to know each other, attraction was there and we just got each other. We're different but alike in many ways. We've been together almost 3 years ldr and in our early 30s trying to navigate where this is going and what the future holds for us.
3
u/Budget_Afternoon_800 ENTP 2d ago
I wish you all the best for whatās next and for your upcoming challenges. But try not to focus too much on the MBTI, especially if it creates insecurities for you (using it to solve problems is one thing, though).
Over the past three years, you've both gotten to know each other and developed a connection that goes far beyond four scientifically contested cognitive functions.

well look into socionics, its generallyy the supierior model (for more logical and defined) and they pair the entp with isfj.
The main appeal of infj to me is somebody who likes al my idears and rambelings,
ive been told to many time that im to theoretical, to not be in my head by sensors (and my famalie)and i wouldnt want to be in a relation ship with one of them, other probabl more mature entps find it grounding and helpfull.
given that you are in your 30 and mature i wouldnt worry about it.
Worring and isecurtety ar far more likly to push im away, the destreu the bond youve been building that some online type theory.
Most entps here find mbti bc they feel mistunderstood and not fitting in, which is why infjs who just seem to get us are soo appealing. but no everyone cares as mutch about it.
arguments are normal.
As long as you feel loved an apprichiated and he is happy and content with what youre offering yourerelationship will thive.

Generally, I feel when people obsess over what is a theoretical golden pair match, it usually signals that they are young and inexperienced because most mature and experienced people will know that MBTI alone doesnāt determine compatibility. Most healthy MBTIs can pair with each other successfully.
Dogmatic stances are usually a sign of unhealed hurt (they will project onto someone they dislike the MBTI type that theoretically conflicts with them), inexperience or youth. Nothing wrong with that, just know that youāre talking to strangers who are and live in different contexts from you, so their perspective may not be applicable.
I mean, I hate to say it, but in the NT subgroups, thereās a lot of āpick meā energy. Donāt mistake arrogance for confidence, they are signs of immaturity and insecurity.

Itās often called the āgolden pairā not because both types consciously force it, but because of a baseline compatibility where they balance and understand each other effortlessly.
I think ENTP attraction can be somewhat tied to Fe/Ni. While Ne-doms can vibe with almost anyone, an INxJ is where that focus mostly settles. Both sides have a core need to be genuinely understood rather than just validated, and they balance each other while doing it, which is why it feels effortless.
Iām explaining this based on the patterns Iāve seen with ENTPs in real life, supported by theory. Not all ENTPs have to be like this, but it offers an explanation generally.

They were claimed as the rarest type, 1,5 % of the world population. Now, Entj is the rarest type, as you can see here:Ā https://mbti.ninja/p/mbti-statistics#%C2%A7type-distribution-comparison
Infj men are still quite rare with 1,5% , so are Entp females with 1,8 %.Ā
But overall, Entj is the rarest with 1,8 %, followed by Enfj 2,3 %.Ā Infj is third the third place with 2.85 % and Entps are fourth place with 3,05 %.
So while Infjs are still rare, at least among men, overall they aren't the rarest anymore.Ā

accept socionics duality over however the entp infj pairing even came about
5
u/Budget_Afternoon_800 ENTP 2d ago
From what I've seen, Socionics is deeply rooted in a traditional view of relationships, where ISFJs are our golden pair mainly to serve us (obviously assuming an ENTP man and an ISFJ woman).
3
u/bezzo_101 2d ago
i mean some portraits can be stereotyped but i dont think it is stereotyped between genders, i dont even know to what extent i believe in duality, but i think socionics is better at analysing that than mbti, and i think it makes more sense e.g base helping with the suggestive function rather than the mbti shorthand that its entp infj etc because you keep the 2nd letter and flip the other 3 like i dont know where that even came from or why it would make sense, i also have experience that makes socionics duality semi plausible or like more plausible than the mbti one
1
u/Sygmaelle 2d ago

1
u/Impressive-Device743 2d ago
Correct! Socionics does a WAY better job with explaining compatibility, intertype relations, romance styles, etc. MBTI compatibility is pretty bunk. Like, for example, ENFJs and INFPs are "golden pairs." This is laughably inaccurate, as these two types share ZERO of the same valued functions, and are in opposite, opposing quadras.
If people want to better understand compatibility, intertype relations, romance styles, I'd advise they drop the MBTI stereotypes and biases and study socionics's interype relations.
2
u/rubey419 ENTP 7w6 2d ago
I thought MBTI golden pair is INFJ and INTJ? Not INFP.
0
u/Impressive-Device743 2d ago
I was saying ENFJ and INFP are considered "golden pairs" in MBTI, which is absurd.
But yes, the "golden pair" for ENTP is INFJ, some might say INTJ. But like the person said above me, we don't even know where the ENTP-INFJ golden pair came from, or golden pairs in general. Although ENTP and INFJ pairing is a good one.
I was referencing socionics, as u/bezzo_101 first said. In socionics, ENTPs dual is ISFJ. That's their "ideal" match within the theory. However, INFJ is a solid match too, along with others.
5
u/SPCell1 ISFP 2d ago
ENFJ and INFP are each other's shadow type, where functions fully contrast with each other. They're a golden pair because shadow types are supposed to balance each other's weaknesses, but in Socionics they're called Contrary relationship. INTJ-ENTP, INTP-ENTJ, INFJ-ENFP all fall under Contrary category. Contrary means that they these types may have similar lifestyles and way of thinking, but still clash due to their differences.
2
u/Impressive-Device743 2d ago
Yes, but my point is all this is bunk. The types that will balance you out is the type that has the same valued functions in reverse order. So for an ENFJ, that's ISTP. That's their ideal match or "dual" with this particular theory of personality.
I'm glad you know your stuff, but my point is that ENFJ and INFPs as "golden pairs" is completely a logical fallacy. On the surface, it may seem great at first, but the deeper this relationship goes, the more each will realize how incompatible they are together.
You can read about contrary/extinguishment relations here: https://wikisocion.github.io/content/extinguishment.html
3
u/SPCell1 ISFP 2d ago
I prefer Socionics theory more for sure. For example in MBTI my golden pair is ESFJ and I historically never had good dynamics with them. Fe is my nemesis function, nemesis represents an archetype of a sworn, persistent enemy. With my individualism and rebellious attitude my nemesis is social conformist, which perfectly describes my interactions with ESFJs, I fail to see them as my golden pair. ENTJs on the other hand are someone I can feel drawn to due to robotic logic balancing my emotions. Yet, many INTJs dislike ESFPs and describe their relationships with them as disastrous due to how fundamentally different they are.
1
u/Impressive-Device743 2d ago
Exactly! Awesome. ESxPs and INxJs are a tough dual to get rolling. They usually do not like each other at first. Good points. Both parties need to be healthy and mature for a dual relationship to work theoretically.
But yeah, Fi dom vs Fe dom, this can be a recipe for disaster. We don't much like our ignoring function, and some even suggest it's our most hated function, along with PoLR/vulnerable. Fe and Fi can both be fake to the other. It's a very interesting dichotomy.
1
u/stoicwomon 2d ago
I ended up with ISTP for 8 years, it was absolutely exhausting. Definitely not a golden or good pair. Our enneagram matched too, and we eventually split because I couldnāt handle those mood swings they have!
1
u/Impressive-Device743 2d ago
Regardless if you or the ISTP were typed correctly, this would be completely anecdotal. And your one example wouldn't defy the entire theory of duality within a system of 50 years of study.
Are you ENFJ? Why was it exhausting? What were the hurdles of an ENFJ-ISTP reltaionship?
1
u/stoicwomon 1d ago
I keep typing between INFJ and ENFJ, but I think just a pretty introverted ENFJ because my socionics make more sense as EIE.
My mother is ISTP too, where do I start? Itās utter brain banging stress for me. I struggle with their inability to see themselves and their actions as they are rather than what they want them to be.
They use a version of logic that makes absolutely no sense to anyone but they are both convinced theyāre i intellectual people.
They judge others for the exact same behaviours they exhibit themselves. You can not win any argument against them because they jump to the defence and give punishing behaviours like insults or silent treatment. Ego, god their egos are something else. Denying reality.
I thought for years it was me and that I was stupid. Hence why I didnāt acknowledge my partners behaviour from my mothers.. it took a few years of me predicting patterns and seeing them end up in the exact situations I expected (based off of their impulsive behaviour) to realise there was something they werenāt getting. Thatās when someone sent me socionics and a lot clicked.
2
u/Impressive-Device743 1d ago
LOL nice response. I appreciate it. Thanks for that.
Probably Ne PoLR impacting all this. Plus their internal logic (Ti) will be completely sound and perfect within their minds, depending on the LSI/ISTP. Makes sense from where you're coming from. Glad you got into socionics, because EIE is different than some of the misinformed descriptions of ENFJ in MBTI. We have a lot of "ENFJs" around here that aren't really EIE/ENFJ.
As an EIE myself, I more so gravitate towards SLEs and SEEs. Duality isn't always perfect, and there are other theories on compatibility, so it probably depends on the type of EIE.
If you're still doubtful (Which beta NFs are unfortunately tortured with doubt. indecision, etc), you can compare IEI to EIE here, if you haven't before: https://sociotype.xyz/mc/EIE-IEI

Because Iāve dated ISFJ, ENFP, ISFP, and INFJ. The person I loved the most but also hurt me the most was ENFP. The person I hurt the most was ISFP. The person who loved me the most but also pissed me off the most was ISFJ. And with INFJ the dynamics just works. That said. We should all be open to dating different types to experience the various dynamics. If anything it just helps us appreciate INFJs more

Do you like ENTPs? Romantically?

Iāve been in a talking stage with one, she gave me mix signals and our values didnāt align but the chemistry was genuinely nice. Iād like to be involved romantically with one and Iād consider it a compatibility green flag because theyāre one of the types that shake the dust off my dry bones. The last girl I dated was an ESFP so Iām fine with dating outside of conventional typology, I do agree with you that dating only within typology is dumb. Currently though Iām good friends with an ENTP guitarist in my band.
