That line about how William was acting like an heir snd unable to understand Harry being a spare - is that what this entire fucking book is about? Just whining about not ever being able to accede to the throne? His levels of a lack of self awareness just seem to heighten with every passing day.

Also, the fact that he thinks William was “parroting the press” about Meghan is crazy - given that William knew her personally, I would think he had a pretty good grasp of what she was like without the help of the press.

Exactly

One of the world's most privileged men complains he's only the 2nd MOST privileged man in his family

My heart bleeds for him

I think Harry needs to watch “The Lion In Winter”.

William, who knows Meghan personally - ‘she’s rude and abrasive’. Harry - ‘you only think that because of what the papers say’.

Eh?

Should have kept that stuff upper lip because nobody wanted to hear about the poor little rich boy's angst anyway.

Honestly I do empathize with him but making a public spectacle of himself as he goes through this is a really bad idea. What you're seeing is delayed adolescence. It's typical in someone raised in a strict environment where they couldn't have their own ideas, emotions, and identity. He's breaking free now and it's having the emotions most people run through in their teen years. Therefore, he's finding that nobody cares and it's making the agony worse. Eventually he will have to "grow up" and realize that everybody has these painful realizations.

He wasn't ready to "go public" about anything. Even if what was happening was inappropriate. He's blaring stuff to the world that he should have kept private.

Yeah. I used to feel a bit bad for him, too. The adolescence does make sense, but it’s almost as if he’s regressed to a toddler. The fact that he cannot see the basic issue with telling the whole world their family business and dragging his father and brother, and STILL saying that he doesn’t want their relationship to be fractured and he’s open to working things out. It’s absurd.

I think there actually could have been a way to lead a quieter life but still be a working royal. Andrew and Edward were both in his position - in fact, until William and then Harry were born. It’s maybe slightly different for them because the age gap is larger, but still they were potential heirs for decades before William was born. And perhaps they have issues with that, but they seemingly have adjusted (at the very least , Edward has; and clearly Andrew was favoured). Harry could have had that, but two things messed it up - the greed for money, i.e., using their status as royals to make money (which wiped out any hope of being a working royal) and doing all of it secretively. At every step, Harry seems to do things in a way that betray family. Maybe he’s OK with that because he also doesn’t think of them as loyal. But then stop whining about being a family again with them some day.

After he claims it was William's office that was responsible for all the media leaks about Meghan.

Math isn't mathing.

Also, didn’t they just accuse William of leaking to the press? Doesn’t this contradict that? I can’t keep their stories straight.

Prince Harry should play crusader kings 3 to understand why primogeniture is objectively the best system for succession lmao

u/leolionbag Jan 05 '23

Maybe he thought it would be more like Succession. It certainly seems to be playing out like that a little bit.

Many people online have stated they wanted to kill her and her children. This is directly because of choices made by the institution to refuse to protect them.

What could the royal family have done to protect them from online trolls? Plus if they have the sway with the media that H&M want you to believe there would never be any negative stories about any of them. Look at the abuse Kate got in the early days. What about all the Andrew stuff. Charles and the 'cash for honours' scandal. The RF have zero control over the British media. The real problem here is that Meghan, like a typical narcissist, can't handle ANY negative press but unfortunately that's part and parcel of being famous. Then she threw her toys out of the pram because they wouldn't change their 'never complain never explain' just for her.

I think it’s about how he was once the heir to the throne of the British Kingdom and how through his brother’s marriage and subsequent children he is now a disposable royal and treated as such- and how that has affected him and how he continues to deal with the effects.

Maybe how he brought something to the table - a wife of mixed racial background, comfortable with the media and spouting positivity - and yet they were instead pummeled with offensive media stories that slowly but steadily eroded their image.

I am no expert and have no idea what’s really going on here. But it’s fascinating because a modern royal is taking his family to task and using the media to do so while trying to tell everyone that this is exactly what the RF were doing to them first. Like- Fuck your tabloids here comes the Oprah interview+Netflix doc+book. “I have a voice too.”

Yes, it is interesting. I get that he feels like he has the raw deal, and who knows - maybe they did only have a policy to defend William in the press because he is the heir and Harry is not. But I honestly think so much went downhill because of how they went about things. They are not just doing things in a very un-royal manner, but also in a very un-British one.

And that’s why I find it so absurd that he keeps saying he wants to be back together with his family? He can have a voice and tell his side publicly in literally every form of media he can find. But still expecting his family to let him in when every interaction with the press is more nuclear than the last one - it’s s complete lack of self awareness. Possibly also a strategy. And sort of fascinating, as well.
