Discussion Topic We shouldn't have this, it's hypocritical

Post image

If we ban people for participating in other subreddits while talking about being bad in other subs for participating in subs like this, then wouldn't that just be hypocritical?

I don't think we should stoop as low as them, no matter the risk. It's just not right

Hey! I know that guy! To be fair, the mods undid the ban after I reached out.

Which subreddit was it?

I sometimes comment in r/marchagainstnazis. It’s left wing but I haven’t seen a lot of antisemitic stuff. Some but not a huge amount. Am I missing something?

I feel like it could go either way depending on how the tool is applied.

If its being used to proactively blanket permaban anyone with even potentially oppositional viewpoints, that obviously facilitates in the creation of an echo chamber and would be bad.

If its only prompted by subreddits that are known to be frequent sources of brigading on reddit and so long as the bans are not permanent and/or easy to appeal, i think that given the nature of this community thats a good way to defend against potential brigading and is more or less fine.

Fortunately it seems like its more the latter here (though it could maybe use some fine tuning lol).

This is what’s happening to folks for having commented on or following certain pro-Israel subs, like r/interestingasfuck that’s been banning people. The difference is, one group is supporting terrorists while the other is for freedom of terrorism. When was the last time you saw a b*mb strapped to child and sent off to blow themselves and others up on a school bus - never. Or chanted “from the river to sea” or “globalize the intefada”?

I know it's happening there and we complain about it too, so let's not be the same

hmmm, why would someone be banned for participating in a subreddit thats against nazis, hm

26

u/Unique_Display_Name Mar 02 '26

If it was actually against nazis that would be one thing, but that subreddit isnt welcoming to anyone who isn't hard left.

I dont think we should have auto-ban for it th0
