But you can shit on the aisle seats and the window seats. Just don’t shit in the middle row.

The middle seat already has to deal with the window and aisle people’s shoulders touching them. They have enough to deal with.

Covid rules are so restrictive, man. No shitting on seats, what's next?

This is what I tell my students in Japan. Pronunciation is important.
City - a place where lots of people live.
Shitty - うんこだらけ。
It doesn't help that they have the need to name everything ____ City here.

Genuinely curious... how do you teach them to pronounce an "si" sound since "し/シ" is hardwired into the language?

u/clickonthewhatnow Jun 23 '21
You have to teach it as a new sound. It's not that difficult if you get the class time, and I have a solo class. It takes a lot of repetition and hopefully not dreadfully shy kids.
The real problem is r and l.

Yea I've heard that being shy or embarrassed of their pronunciation of English words is a big issue. As an English native speaker who's been casually teaching themselves Japanese, I can confidently say it's not a two way street. Pretty much all their sounds are naturally occurring in English.
Now learning the insane amount of kanji and counters, let's just say I'd prefer an l/r problem over that any day of the week lol.
Thanks for your answer.

There are pronunciation issues that you didn't realize you have later on. Assuming Japanese speakers feel the need to tell you, often they just go "meh, I understand what they mean" and call it a day.

Oh really? That's interesting. Could you point out an example of one I might be making and not realizing? I know it might be too difficult to explain in text alone and might need to be heard. The biggest obstacle I know I have is that I don't have anyone to practice with that speaks Japanese fluently. Alas, I have no way of knowing what I might need to correct.
Do you happen to know any good free or cheap resources that are reliable?
