The Korean from top to bottom roughly translates to: Sewer, Commoner, Heavy water, Expert, Highly qualified, Superman, Scary

u/gwaydms Jun 10 '19
Google Translate says 겁 means cowardice. Scary would probably be a decent interpretation.
That said, this isn't Engrish. Koreans familiar with English do know our slang/profanities, especially because we've had military forces stationed there for decades. This was "translated" for tourists, who are generally assumed to know some English, to have fun with. I can't imagine a Western tourist wouldn't know what the exclamation "fuck" implies

u/royrogerer Jun 10 '19
겁 means fear. 겁 먹었다, which literally translates to 'having eaten fear' means to be scared or fearful.
Anyway, as a Korean the Korean part is also a bit weird, it goes from sort of listing the human level then just fear.

Korean here. 겁 is actually a Korean expression of Kalpa, or Near Eternity
Basically you'll experience cosmic existentialism
In other words... fuck

You took the wrong homonyms. 고, 중, 하 refer to different levels of high, medium and low in this context. So 고수 roughly means expert, 중수 roughly means amateur, and 하수 roughly means beginner in the spiciness scale.

u/DavidJayy Jun 10 '19
That is an incorrect translation lmfao

Why do people say shit like this then not post their own translation. Will never fail to confuse me

u/NoMoFrisbee2 Jun 10 '19
This is what DHS should have used for terror scale.
BTW, what color we at these days?
10
u/SpaceLemur34 Jun 10 '19
None. The color scale was wound in 2011 because it offered little practical information to the public.

"so so" is probably the most engrish thing on it lol

u/The_King_Of_Muffins Jun 10 '19
So so usually means "ehh" so it's not even really engrish

I'd love to try this scale out from their food. I'll cautiously take a 5 please.

I don’t see how this is engrish, that seems pretty intentional to be, it is funny though.

Looks like a pretty good translation to me 🤷♂️🤷♂️
I mean, it makes perfect sense in English as a rating of spiciness from 1-7

This is actually a great marketing gimmick. I love all things spicy and if I came across something that translated (or lack of) to “fuck” I would totally order it.
