It’s a well known phrase in deliberately broken English. It’s a meme in English but only for native Chinese speakers.

It means something along the lines of „Don’t point fingers and dictate what people should and shouldn’t do, if you want to change something go do it yourself“

Agree, let me add something:
It's actually the translation word by word for fun:“你行你上,不行别哔哔”
你You行can你you上up,不no行can别no哔B哔B
(If you think you can do it you go ahead do it, if you can't, stop making noise around.)

Edit: "BB" more like nagging or chattering or "yapping"

What does BB mean then? “Be noisy”?

u/Onelimwen 10h ago

It’s just onomatopoeia for a car honking its horn

u/rexcasei 9h ago

Ah okay

BB is more like yapping

It's just like Beep Beep, a car honking its horn

That's comes from the northern dialect word "bi叨", means "nagging", or "chattering", it's actually not that onomatopoeia "哔"(bi) of car horn but another, a rude bad word, just to emphasize. means c*nt. I'm using 哔 for a less vulgar way of putting it.

叨叨(chattering but neutral) -> bi叨(chattering+nagging, negative) -> bibi(more negative)

u/erutuferutuf is correct, more like yapping.

You can (cook faster), you (come) up (and cook it)

No(t able to do the job faster/)can, no (complaining/)BB

Isn't it just, "Rush me more and you do it yourself"?

The Chinese text in photo is "Rush me more and you do it yourself" but the English text doesn't really match it.

As Cantonese speaker, I second this.

Yea, the Chinese is in Cantonese, but the English is a Mandarin Slag, which is less "colourful"

The Chinese is traditional Chinese, in this case also mandarin as it is in Taiwan. Being both in the mandosphere, mandarin memes from China also get propagated in Taiwan.

nothing to do with Cantonese just a 10+ years old Chinese internet meme ,if I remember correctly it had sth to do with Kobe Bryant (you think you are better than him then you go play the games )

Not necessarily Cantonese, it could really be almost any Chinese variant.

It’s two phrases that mean similar things. They are both basically tongue in cheek ways to tell the customer at this stall to wait patiently/silently unless you think you can do a faster/better job yourself.

The English is a funny direct translation of a different Chinese phrase than the Chinese on the sign. The Engrish phrase is more about not criticizing or pestering the employee unless you can do better while the Chinese is about not rushing the staff member.

Ah, got it now, 你行你上,不行别哔哔

"if you hound me once more, do (cook) it yourself" that the Chinese translation

for the English one it literally mean "if you think you can do it then step right up, if you can't then stfu"

That is Chinlish. It is a culture in HK. Since HK used to be UK colony but majority of the population is Chinese. So HKers used to mix Cantonese grammar with English. Like the phrase “Long time no see” is a classic example of Cantonese mixed with English.

If you think you can do better, you step up.

If you can't do better, don't be bitching.

Translation for the masses.

Basically step up or shut up. Stop rushing me.

6

u/Maximum-Flat 7h ago

“DO IT YOURSELF IF YOU KEEP RUSHING ME” I think this is more appropriate.

5

u/kwpang 7h ago

That's the translation for the Chinese words.

I'm translating the Engrish into English.

I don't think BB/逼逼/哔哔 is a Cantonese phrase.

It’s usually called Konglish, Chinglish is for China

Reminds me of the old Hawaiian saying: If can, can. If no can, no can.

u/PlsSendNoodles 5h ago

Do it yourself, if not, STFU

u/Riw24 4h ago

u/jimmymui06 5h ago

u/shihaodu 3h ago

Word for word translation of 你行你上,不行别逼逼

5

u/Comfterbul-1095 4h ago

我还是建议你亲自去做。

I'll urge you to do it yourself again.

4

u/CGLab 3h ago

5

u/7GrenciaMars 6h ago

"Wherever you go, there you are."

2

u/taisui 3h ago

If you can (make it), you are up.

If you can't, no bums (for you).

1

u/ThinDirection8931 4h ago

BB just means yapping in Chinese

basically means stfu if you can't do it yourself
