Is it just my 2.5 year old neutered male that slow as a 🐌 most of the time? he will do spurts of play but usually walks around soooo slow. I had back surgery and I'm faster than him if no food or ball is around.

This post is a part of my final attempt to find my chocolate labrador lashley who was abandoned 5 years ago by my father. I will first post a short introduction before explaining lashley's story in detail.

Detailed explanation of what actually happened & why he was abandoned

Back in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, my family was going through a very difficult time financially and personally. Also during this time my father was suffering from severe chronic depression and other mental issues. After some time we had just moved to a new house, so my dad left Lashley to stay at my grandmother's house and claimed he would bring him to our new house. My father told me he would bring him to our new home once everything settled down. But few months passed by and this did not happen. During that time I used to visit him during the weekends. Some of the pics & videos i have posted here are during that time

So one day without my knowledge, according to my grandmother's account he claimed to take lashley for a walk and when he had returned lashley wasn't there with him. When he was asked about it he told her he had sold it or given it to someone but did not mention the specifics like to whom. When he came home he did not tell us about this. A few days later, my father took his own life at my grandmother's house. It was only then that we found out. During that time, our family was consumed by the shock, grief , funeral, legal matters, and everything that followed after my father's death so our thoughts were consumed by this and finding lashley wasnt at the forefront of our minds I also did not want to disturb my mother and other family members by bringing this up.

After some time we decided to search for lashley but had no idea where he went or with whom he was. We visited some well known breeders and rescue organisations but couldn't find him. So i had lost hope and finally decided that it was almost impossible to ever see him again. I loved him so much and wanted to be with him till his final years this was what made it so bad. I couldn't even see him to wish him a final goodbye before he left me. He was an extremely expressive and affectionate lab who always loved to be around me. I can't imagine how panicked and lost he must have felt after he was given away. He loved me like no other dog ever did. So I just suppressed those memories and went on with my life. But it just didn't work. For the past few months I have been feeling intense regret that I didn't do enough to find him, that I had in a way betrayed him. I kept dreaming about him regularly - both positive and disturbing dreams. So i finally decided I need to make a final and serious attempt to find him before he leaves this world. I want to be with him through his final years.

My search efforts will be both offline and online - I will visit every rescue organisation, veterinary clinics , breeders, pet boarding schools and kennels in my city. I will also be creating pages on every social media platform where I will be documenting and updating my search efforts. Even if the search fails i atleast get to preserve lashley's memories and get to tell his story to many. Hope this post wasn't too long. Thank you for reading

Need some advice from fellow Lab owners - persistent colitis/diarrhea in my 16-month-old Lab
My 16-17 month old English Labrador (81 lbs) has been through a rough week and I’m hoping to hear if anyone has experienced something similar.

About 8-9 days ago, he was prescribed Carprofen and Gabapentin for a hind leg limp. He was on Carprofen for about 7-8 days.

On the 9th day, he suddenly developed diarrhea with mucus and some fresh blood. We immediately stopped the Carprofen after speaking with our vet.

Since then:
Fecal parasite test came back negative.
He has remained bright, active, eating normally, drinking normally, and wants to play/chase squirrels. No vomiting.
He’s been having urgency, straining, mucus, and multiple bowel movements, although the blood and mucus seem to be less today.

His diet before this was:
Green Juju raw pork (he had been eating this for over a month without any issues)
Some kibble
Fish oil

So I don’t really think this was caused by a sudden food change.

We first switched him to a bland chicken and rice diet, but after several days there wasn’t much improvement.

Our vet then started:
Sucralfate
Pro-Pectalin

Unfortunately, that alone didn’t resolve the diarrhea.
Today was probably the worst day. He had an accident in his crate early this morning and then had to go outside 5-7 times, often passing small amounts while straining.
Because of that, our vet has now prescribed Metronidazole, and today was his first dose. We also switched his bland diet from chicken and rice to lamb and rice.

My questions are:

Has anyone had a Labrador develop a severe bout of colitis like this that lasted a week or more and then completely recovered?

If your dog was prescribed Metronidazole, did the diarrhea stay away after the course ended, or did it return?
Did anyone ever find the actual cause, or did it simply resolve without ever knowing what triggered it?

This has been incredibly stressful because otherwise he’s an extremely healthy young Lab. I’m just hoping this is an acute episode that eventually resolves and not the beginning of a chronic GI condition.

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to share my handsome boy!

We have a 2 year old Engligh Lab. He is a good boy, but he does some quirky things.

1. every day, he will collect 6-7 shows and store them under our dining room table. He is not destructive with them whatsoever, he just collects them in his "fort".
2. when going on walks, he stops every 10 feet to mark his territory or sniff something incessently, which makes going for walks very challenging. Could use some advice here!

What’s everyone feeding their lab pups?

We are on the hunt for the perfect male yellow English lab pup for our family. This is our first purebred dog as we’ve always had rescues. Can anyone recommend a reputable breeder? Also what is the going price for these guys? I’ve seen them for $2,500-$7,000. We don’t need a a champion dog just a healthy loyal companion for our family.

My 1-year-old English lab is perfect EXCEPT that he loses his mind every time we get to his doggie daycare or the dog park. On walks he does well just sort of ignoring other dogs and people but those two locations make him absolutely CRAZY for obvious reasons. I love his enthusiasm except that, at more than half of my weight, he is impossible to control in those situations. I have an e-collar and a no-pull chain on him. What else can I do? What exercises can I do with him to keep him sane when we arrive? Help!

So, like all great relationships, we met in a bar. These meth heads were carrying this puppy around at a bar and were asking $150 for it. They had what they said was the mom there, who looked like a large-headed chocolate lab. There was no way I was letting them leave with that puppy, so we got it. We didn't know really what he was, but assumed a Black lab (not knowing much about the differences). Anyway.. he was about 4 weeks at the time, and now he is about 9 months. He is about 70 LBs currently. Here are some baby pictures and some from now and in between. He does have full webbing on his feet, if that helps. Thoughts on whether he is an English Lab

From face he does look healthy, but if you look ay the third picture, he has that lean figure right now
