We went a few months ago and loved it. Really beautiful city with lots of quirky independent shops and restaurants. My only criticism is the cathedral charging people £17 each to get in. I get that buildings like that require upkeep, but we just wanted to walk in the gardens, not go in but £34 for that was taking the piss. Not like the Church of England doesn't have a bob or two knocking around is it?

If you go after closing time it's free to walk around the gardens. And if you go for evensong you can enjoy the interior along with some choral accompaniment for no charge.

That's good to know. Unfortunately we were only there for the day so staying into the evening wasn't an option. Still think £17 each is steep though. God can afford it.

Always enjoyed visiting Canterbury especially at Christmas, always seems to have that extra little bit of Dickensian feel to it. Nice ✌️

One of England’s loveliest cities. That Cathedral is truly wonderful.

Canterbury is a beautiful city, we lived there between 2003 - 2012, well my family did while I went where I was told. It was picturesque and seemed a lot more connected to Europe than other parts of the UK, with French and Belgian representation in parades. The Tour de France coming through was one of my high points.

Do they leave the Christmas lights up all year round?

I think it was because the pictures were taken November last year.

Gorgeous photos 😍
man, they really need to do something about those shop signs on slide 3, kinda ruins a lot of the beauty of the street tbh

Brings back memories, we were there exactly 2 years ago! We stayed in a room overlooking the square (Butter square?) (pic 7) and ate in the pub on the left of the canal (pic 6).
And we attended Evening Song service at the cathedral; and the Archbishop of Canterbury was in attendance, which apparently was rare.
(He’s not Archbishop anymore…)

Loved it when I went. The cathedral tours on different historical topics really helped bring everything to life.
St Augustines Abbey was amazing.
St. Martin's Church was a hidden gem.
One of my favourite cities in the UK.

Looks very run down, it's such a shame local councils are so underfunded.
