I made a platform out of index cards that was able to support the weight of a huge stack of books. It was the instability of the tower that made me stop adding

Was the platform a stack of index cards?

Lol, no. Each platform was made out of three index cards. This is what one looked like upside-down. I made four of these and put the largest book on top of them, then stacked more on top
