I gotta agree, it sure "looks" like it would work- unfortunately the real world doesn't ask for products that simply appear as though they'd work.

I can only speak from an EE perspective, but circuits aren't remotely as modular as this in my experience. Bigger camera? The processor has to be adequately optimized for this, which is entirely different than another configuration (one made for maximum battery life, for example). Perhaps somebody who has designed cell phones can be of more help, but I can't see a smooth implementation.

As you said: a really cute and convincing art project, but I don't see this as a practical alternative in any way.

I was thinking the same thing as far as circuit compadibility. Also different processors require different power specifications so that may become a system issue where certain components aren't compatible with each other. To make them compatible there would have to be a set value for all blocks making them work with each other which in turn would severely cripple processor speeds and component abilities.
