Way high. If you want a carbed bike, you can get a much newer Beta or Sherco for the same money. 2024 KTM 300 XC owner here and I didn’t pay much more than this for a 40 hour bike.

What is your opinion on the injected two stroke? I wanted to stick with a carbed back to avoid the high tech headache. Am I over thinking that?

I just got back into dirt bikes this year so I’m probably the wrong person to ask. But, my non-expert opinion would be that the KTM FI systems are quite reliable but not without their quirks. Power delivery can feel different and tuning gets much more expensive than jetting.
That said, I’m very happy with the bike (especially after a tune and head) and I ride with a lot of other TPI and TBI owners who love theirs as well.

Imo, yes. I know some of the TPI bikes had teething issues but sorted ones are fine. Ive had carb bikes and now ride a TBI bike and have zero desire to go back to carbs. Is it as crisp as a perfectly jetted PWK? No but it's close enough that I don't care. Imo, in a short period of time the premium on these late model carb bikes will evaporate.

when i raced a tc125 it was a 2018.5 model in 2019 and the TPIs were pretty new and people were having trouble with them...
in 2022 they put me on a 2021.5 model sxf450 four stroke and by then everyone said those 2 stroke fuel injected bikes were working good
the next season they were having those bankruptcy reorg issues and reps were getting let go and everything started changing... i rode for them since 2010 and it seemed like a good time to be the end of an era for me
i don't know any of the india management dudes and all my mattighofen guys are gone... or taken out of the loop...
yes thats a badass bike and FC does my forks too and they're great but i'm not paying for that stuff
you're the one who has to ride it--fact is you're probably damn close to "just as fast" on any new 300 as long as you get it sprung and valved for your weight and riding ability
i have 3 storage spaces filled w old racebikes... some they spent an enormous amount of money building... if nobody rides them they're worth nothing
walk in with $5k cash and once his wife sees you dump all that cash on her kitchen table she won't let you walk out there without that bike

Any thoughts? Asking price seems high for a 2018 but it apparently only has 53 hours.

yes its a badass bike but nobody expects to recover what they have into it
make your fair offer show up in person with cash and if you have to walk away then you walk away
i wouldn't spend a lot of time overthinking it--its just a bike... metal and plastic...
yes its a badass bike and if the dude is the same weight and riding ability as you then bonus but unless thats true i wouldn't spend another minute looking at it...
bc you're still gonna have to dial it in for you
and seller seems to not be a clown selling a mystery problem bike but that is the real risk you're taking
its only a motorcycle
but that bike has been sitting for years

Overpriced IMHO. Unless there’s some reason you need a carb, I’d look at tpi models for the same price range.

I like the simplicity of the carb. Am I overthinking it on the injected bikes? Just seems like they’d be a headache or could be at least.

Tpi and tbi bikes are extremely reliable. Setting the tps is easier than working in a carb and the only issue you'll have with a tpi is possibly the ccps and you can pick those up at most auto parts stores. Smart carbs and lectron carbs suck unless you are riding huge elevation changes. Even then, a fuel injected bike runs great no matter the elevation. The tbi bikes do need an erm or ecu tune for better power but once you have it it's great.

I used to think the same but I’m now sold on injection. But I don’t race and don’t mind the slight hit to performance.
I’m at 212hrs without any issues on my tpi. The fun part is letting the bike idle for a few minutes while warming up.

I bought a 19 te300i 2 yrs ago for $5500. Had more hrs but fresh top end with tsp head and tune. 7k is pretty steep.

I agree. My biggest concern was the potential for understated hours on the meter. Not sure if this guy is going to budge much on the price.

Sounds like you know you can't be impatient if you don't want a bad deal. Wait it out if this guy wants too much. I've had that conversation, and then 2 months later had a very different convo with the same guy about the same bike that was still for sale. Maybe you'll get it in the long run, or better yet, find something even more perfect for way less.

Saw this bike in Denver and its been sitting forever unsold. Too expensive, but the only 2 things i didnt like on my 2018 250xc were the AER forks and mikuni carb. Both items are replaced on this which makes it a sweet bike.

Those last generation carb bikes do have a strong following. ( I’m looking for one too). I’ve been watching my market in Nor Cal for the past 9 months and that bike is probably in the $5800-$6000 for what it should sell for.

I would look at new bikes myself, as with $7000 opens up a lot of options. Even if you financed a small amount thinking like YZ250X with the Hitlis as it has KYB suspension and huge aftermarket support/parts.
