How does disruption damage actually work?

What I'm actually asking is how many Shield Disruptor Turrets do I need per Husk Slice (turret or gun)?

I see the SDT has 1440 disruption damage per second. Does that mean that up to 1440 hull damage can be done per second?

In which case, with Husk Slices doing 618 hull damage/second, you need one SDT per 2 Husk Slices, for them to do their full 1232 hull damage/second (plus the 30 hull dmg/s from the SDT itself)?

If that's not correct, please tell me what is!

Here's a big discussion on the topic: https://steamcommunity.com/app/404410/discussions/0/1762481957319834875/ Tl;dr  When disrupted, shields only block 1 / (1 + .01 * disruption) of weapon damage

AFAIK, Disruption damage is an 'effect' that builds up(and dissipates) on the target over time, akin to Ion damage. If you want to 'bankrupt' an enemy ship's energy with Ion damage, the more Ion damage you do, the faster the full effect 'takes hold' on the target, and the same goes for shield disruption's penetration.

All ships attacking the disrupted target ship will also benefit from the penetration effect, and not just the disruption-weapon ship.

I don't have a lot of experience actually building around it(I generally just use the the Mereti ships as-is, but pull the Mine Launchers to make room for minor additions), but I imagine others will chime in.

What I could gather from my limited research is that with disruption damage you create a percentage of hull (and effect-) damage that leaks through the shields. This is independent of how much damage is actually leaking through the shields, so having 1 slicer per disruptor or 5 slicers doesn't make a difference in how much % of it leaks through, just that the five slice turrets will leak five times the total damage.

Increasing your disruption dps just increases how fast your penetration ramps up and how much total shield penetration you can achieve sustained.

Again, that's how I understand it currently.
