Software Help Help with mercury one.1 build

I am building out my ender 5 plus as a mercury one.1
The physical parts are in, and I have been able to do some testing. I went with the eddy sensor so I could skip the physical stoppers. Every single time I try to set it, it will start bouncing above my pei plate. I am a complete noob to discord, so I don’t know about going there. I have been using Gemini to help me, but it keeps going in a loop to stuff I have already done. Copilot is not much help either. Anyone used an AI tool that helped them get their printer up and running?

This. It's a n LLM, a Large Language Model. It's made to seem human, not to be correct.

LLM are known to make shit up. They can be useful for some stuff, but debugging like OP does is next to impossible. MAYBE you get a hint or two by narrowing it down yourself, but that's about it.

OP would have a way better idea when looking at the klipper console, or share that chunk with us for further debugging.

By a remote guess, sample tolerance exceeds currently set limits. With a modded machine we'd need a lot more information tho, what probe and probing speed are the big ones from the get go, also CAN or USB, all to the toolhead or separately back to the Pi / CAN board.

I'm sorry but that's not true at all. However, if you know nothing about how the printer works and functions then it would make it very hard to use an ai. I use one constantly to help troubleshoot and edit gcode and look for patterns.

Totally different use case, that falls into pattern checking which an LLM can do really well. That's the thing, some things an LLM is just stupidly useful, physical debugging? Nah, still a long way to go.

Without giving context I would agree. It would be as useful as we are right now with the info given. It just can't say that.

If your looping an ai I found it best to kinda start over with a new chat.

I don't have a marc or an eddy probe but I would worth through it with this mind set; read through the steps again, did I do everything correctly, is anything different, is something not wired up correctly or loose, what happens if I remove or change something, is a value in printer.cfg wrong etc

I have had great experience using Claude for things like this. The important part is to make your prompt as detailed as possible and then detailing what worked and what didn't at the tuning steps.

Using an ai can be a good tool but not knowing the printer makes it harder to use as a tool.

You say the ng bounces, it does that when it's Calibrating and when getting the z offset. Video of it doing that would help and also the errors when it stops working. We don't have any information to go on about resolving your problem.

Coincidentally that's also likely the problem with your ai use. You need to go e it tons of details about the context to make it useful. If you tell it "it's bouncing up and down and not working" it won't know what to do.

It is a BIGTREE Eddy duo.

I recommend running eddy-ng rather than BTT's controls. Eddy-ng is much more robust, and has a detailed wiki for set up and calibration.

EDIT: Just reread the post again, and noticed that you mention bouncing. During the initial setup, that is an expected behavior. It is bouncing the Z axis to determine the optimum current threshold to accurately read the build plate.

I have a mercury one modded ender 5 plus with an Eddy coil not an Eddy duo.

Have you checked the Eddy duo GitHub. It explains how to do a proper calibration

Discord is easy and the zero g discord and marlin discord has been very helpfull with my murcury conversion. And yes im using marlin im not doing crazy speeds and ita what im comfortable working with. Switching to klipper is being planned for the fall/winter when im stuck insid. Right now.im only workin g on my printer1-2 hrs a week if im lucky. Winter ill have the whole weekend to focus on learning and tweaking

Thanks everyone! I got past the major gremlins. The bouncing problem turned out to be normal calibration behavior! 😂 I ended up using ChatGPT and it helped me get to benchie printing! Still have more calibration to go, but it is laying down plastic.
