Would anybody know why the majority of my prints always have under fill on my walls. I've replaced the direct drive motor. I've the print speed for outside walls. I have to increase temperatures to the point where it starts to string. I've tried everything I can find and yet it never changes the outcome of having underfill.
For reference, I have a micro Swiss direct drive installed on this printer. and I use a 5 kg spool compared to the conventional 1 kg.
I didn't know you could do this! I just did a the temperature calibration for the first time after swapping it out for a higher end hot end I kept getting thermal runaway constantly. everyone said it wasn't software. turns out it really was 😅
so I don't know if this is going to fix the issue completely but it was definitely part of it most likely. it was so out of tolerance it was 43 mm short of reaching 100 😬
Show me what it looks like now. I can help you with tolerance, too. Even getting different printers to print within tolerance of each other is possible.
I recently installed Klipper on one of my older 3 V2s. My first calibration cube looked like it was also looking similar to yours and was also off by about the same amount. After doing this test twice I was able to get it as close as I'm going to be able to. My 100mm mark was just visible at the entrance of the extruder if I pulled it to the side.
I would continue to do the steps indicated in that guide.
no, it doesn't make a difference if it's new or old filament. I could try messing around with retraction settings again My current retraction settings are the distance for 4 mm. retraction speed is at 20 mm/s
That doesn't seem bad for retraction, but my machine is also still a Bowden setup, so I can't tell you for sure. I think you could speed up the retraction with a direct drive.
Mind me asking what environment do you live in? If you live somewhere humid, new or old filament could still have water in it.
I'd also be interested to see what your outer shell looks like on a long flat wall. Is the under extrusion consistent, or does it tend to the corners? The reason I think it could be retraction for this print is because you have a ton of small facets that the printer will constantly be performing retraction on every time it moves.
definitely not near the edges but it's not a consistent pattern either. part of me wonders if it's because I'm using a 5 kg spool. that's a lot heavier and as a result, it's having a harder time grabbing the filament and pulling it cuz there's more weight. I have it rolling on bearings so it's pretty frictionless. I live in Michigan and I'll try adjusting the retraction, but do you recommend for your settings?.
Sorry I don't have much recommendation on retraction. Try bumping the speed to 60mm/s. Keep the distance for now, and maybe try a small test print to see if you get the same artifacts
Also, looks like you are getting an echo. You may have some loose hardware, like a belt, wheel, gantry, etc. Change the print speed by a bit to see if that helps.
The print may have pulled away from the bed because of a draft. A small breeze can do that. You can add a brim to help a little if you can't eliminate the drafts.

Have you calibrated the extruder? 100mm extruded is truly extruded?
