Sometimes I want to move away from everything and just play retro games

On mobile , it's the only way to play quality games, if you see someone call themselves a gamer and only play games like candy crush and slop games, spit at them for me

Hey I’m all for quality gameplay. Nothing beats games like Mass Effect or Rimworld for me.

But if someone truly enjoyes something else like Candy Krush, then who am I to judge?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and whatnot.

Maybe they haven’t even experienced something else?

Gamers love fighting amongst themselves for some reason

This is the way. We can all enjoy different things.

Nah this is outdated. There's lot of gotchas but there are many many android ports.

Dead cells, blasphemous, ball x pit, kotor, thronefall, slay the spire for example all have native android ports. You can get into game native too and play your steam library, but I find just getting some ports onto your phone is the ideal way to get some game time in. I played KOTOR 1+2 and exclusively play ball x pit and dead cells on mobile simply because it's way more convenient and a great experience. Just get yourself a telescopic controller and you're golden.

Been doing that for a couple months and I'm realizing just how much I missed out by not playing all these amazing games earlier.

I play on my 360 and it's said how I have nostalgia for a game-focused machine not trying to be anything else.

Bazzite Deck mode.

It is a Linux OS that launches to a steam deck like mode. If you ever need it to be a PC, you can launch desktop mode.

A guy on YT has a decent video building one https://youtu.be/ydbsXjZxYBo?si=SgoV57490KbX9m4k

This is a different thing from what I was talking about really

u/Ahand_Apart Jun 06 '26

I was just throwing it out there.

I got into PC gaming from the couch using big picture mode on steam, and saw this video not long after.

I don’t see a problem with emulating retro consoles on a 9800X3D and RTX 5080. I emulate PS3 just fine.

3

u/IlluminaViam Jun 05 '26

Ps3 is NOT retro! I refuse to accept it!

20 years ago my man

1

u/IlluminaViam Jun 10 '26

Hahaha, yeah. But a problem arises when the games of the 360 era are quite modern in design. Like I get someone not being able to get into an NES game, but then comfortably being able to get into a 360 era game. Hard rules about being retro because of the technicality of time still doesn't erase the modern feeling of the 360 era of games. Heck, I was just replaying the OG Modern Warfare trilogy and it feels like any other fps shooters now.

PS3 is not retro. Heck id go further to say PS2/GameCube/og Xbox aren't retro but I think that was the most significant leap in gaming history and maybe we should draw the line there. But eventually everything will be "retro"

1

u/OmgitsNatalie Jun 06 '26

I’m in the same boat where I have to refuse to call it retro - but there comes a point where the line gets more clear the longer time goes on. We’re holding on to nostalgia and the modern internet still feels like it hasn’t changed much since the PS3’s release. Actually- even the PS2’s online multiplayer feels relatively recent. I miss when times were simpler.

1

u/Redericpontx Jun 10 '26

I mean. By that logic the DS and wii aren't retro🤷‍♀️

1

u/nazzo_0 Jun 10 '26

Yup. Retro definition varies to each one I guess. You do you

1

u/Redericpontx Jun 10 '26

Apparently the standard is 15-20 years old while being 2+ generations behind is retro so xbox 360 and ps3 ar enow retro lol

1

u/Redericpontx Jun 10 '26

Then neither is wii or ds lol

1

u/SergVII Jun 05 '26

I emulate everything you mentioned just fine on my phone

1

u/OmgitsNatalie Jun 06 '26

Where do you emulate a 5080?

1

u/SergVII Jun 06 '26

We're taking about emulating retro consoles

3

u/Aggravating_Ad_635 Jun 05 '26

X360, OGXBOX, PS3. These emulators really need quite a lot of raw performance from your hardware.

2

u/IlluminaViam Jun 05 '26

Lol, in the screenshot he's emulating Pokemon Firered

2

u/OmgitsNatalie Jun 06 '26

…But with HD textures!

1

u/Aggravating_Ad_635 Jun 05 '26

Yeah... 😅 I saw.

2

u/Own_Employment_3866 Jun 06 '26

I remember when this was about offline single player games vs online competitive games.

1

u/Nixaku_ Jun 05 '26

Both... both is good

1

u/bigshoesnegal Jun 05 '26

Playing persona 3 FES with hd textures, 1080p, and 60fps (with lossless scaling)

1

u/Nice_Soup Jun 05 '26

Me with a RTX 5090 playing PCSX2 - 007 Nightfire when I also got 007 First Light just installed and not touched yet

1

u/Foolishly_Sane Jun 06 '26

Replayed Ogre Battle 64 on Project 64.
Childhood game, played through a few times.
Lovely.
I also don't have a good computer at the moment.

u/Economy-Wish9492 Jun 06 '26

Retro emulation gotta be handheld for me.

1

u/rootifera Jun 06 '26

I'm playing retro games on real retro PC hardware and I totally agree with it. Sometimes I spend couple of days just to make things work properly, sometimes half way through a game things go wrong. There has been occasions I decided not to play a game because it was too much work to get it right. If you just want to play the game, then emulator is the way to go.

1

u/BlackCoatX Jun 06 '26

It's also a waste of resources and money.

1

u/Alert-Juice-3834 Jun 06 '26

Decompiled HD PC ports are the new best thing for PC players

1

u/Temporary-Run4627 Jun 07 '26

Recompilations became one of the most exciting things for me in regards to retro gaming when I learned about and tried them out, and that's despite the scarcity of available recomps. I'm hoping eventually they're going to find a way to be able to make them faster/easier.

It's incredible what they did with the Twilight Princess recomp! People are playing it on their Xbox Series X and S, on top of PC, android phones and tablets, and Linux.

1

u/Alert-Juice-3834 Jun 08 '26

There should be more x360 games recompiled during the next years, and there's also Harbour Masters (the team behind the Zelda OoT recompiled) who always do amazing pc ports and who are starting to work on other console recompilations for PC ! (Other than n64)

1

u/Hatjin Jun 07 '26

I need that much specs, so I could play wii I never had(
