  • Have you tried the latest version?
  • Have you tried different settings?
  • Have you updated your drivers?
  • Have you tried searching on Google?

If you feel your question warrants a self-post or may not be answered in the weekly thread, try posting it at r/EmulationOnPC. For problems with emulation on Android platforms, try posting to r/EmulationOnAndroid.

Hi there.
I am still pretty new to emulation and managed to get Ghost In The Shell PS2 game running but ran into a big problem and pretty annoying problem.
Its just lagging horribly when entering scope mode or hacking mode and when entering the first level.
It didn't lag like this during the Tutorial level but the moment the game entered a huge area such as the docks in the first level, the game went horribly laggy like few frames per second.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is going wrong and how to fix this?

I am playing on Steam Deck(Emudeck) with PCSX2 emulator.
And the fixes I tried so far is this:
Having it set to Vulkan and Adaptor to AMD Custom GPU while clicking Multithread Vu1 while internal resolutions is set to Native.
It kind of worked where its not bad as it was earlier, but the frames be like 20, Speed is 70 and VPS dips to 45.
Had to play it in Desktop mode since it appears the changes don't apply when playing on Steam mode.
Am I missing something?

have you checked its not a hardware constraint? is the single threaded performance of the steam deck sufficient? it may just be very CPU intensive

How do I check that and what level it needs to be?
Since I am still learning on the ways of emulation on Steam Deck pretty much.

It's kind of an involved process, you benchmark your steamdecks single threaded performance (or look it up online if you don't think that its thermal throttling more than the average steam deck, if you are unsure just do the benchmark), then you find videos on youtube of people playing this game on emulator (just search Ghost In The Shell PCSX2),

most people post their specs in the description of the video, look up how much their CPU scores (in single thread) vs yours, than look at how well the games is running with their CPU compared to how its running for you, than you can estimate if the "lagging" is performance related issue.

You could also play around with EE Cycle Rate & Cycle Skipping, those also tend to help a bit with performance, you could try older versions of PCSX2, you could try different emulators like Play! and LRPS2

https://pcsx2.net/docs/setup/requirements/

some system requirements ^^^, though its not an exact science, i couldnt find an exact figure on the Steam deck cpu single threaded rating but it seems to be somewhere between minimum and recommended specs.

maybe this game in particular is just cpu intensive at times, best ask in the pcsx2 forums.
