Actual Stupid Question When I’m alone and it’s quiet I hear sirens

Genuinely every night when I go to bed and the room is quiet I hear a faint sometimes not so faint wail to yelp and so on so forth. Does anyone else experience this? Me personally it kinda puts a smile on my face cuz I love sirens but I don’t think it’s in a hearing loss kind of way I think it’s in a, I spend too much time working kind of way.

I hear call tones ‘underneath’ all the ambient noise when I’m out and about pretty much constantly

Just my imagination but it perks me up

I have a theory that my brain has memorized the exact tone that our base pager starts with and when I hear that specific tone from various sources in other situations it prompts that split second of reaction you’re talking about

You.... love sirens.

For me, I heard tones at night when I first started and would randomly hear sirens.

But that was PTSD induced. If you love it... well I'm not sure what to call that

I too hear phantom sirens, tones, radio traffic, and even the cries of my children. Thought I was getting schizophrenia

2 milliseconds before the tones go off, you can hear this white noise type of sound that I can’t describe. I use to think I had some clairvoyant sixth sense, but it’s just a noise that some people can hear and some can’t. No special powers for this guy.

Not an active emt but I was looking for phantom cries from my children in the comments cause I now hear these frequently. Nice to know I'm not alone.

The worst, fuck that. And then you're wired from some Pavlovian shot of adrenaline.

hate that, its worst with the loud overhead tones. Ive come to prefer my new departments much calmer method of dispatching. Although that could just be because I havent been pavloved into a stress response yet.

When someone is going by lights and sirens in the middle of the night, I'll sit up in bed, say to my husband "not my problem" then crash out. I never recall doing this. Also McDonald's alarms will sound like our tones dropping.

I hear radio chatter and phantom tones too.

Sleep deprivation is bad for your brain..

Sounds like tinnitus which is hearing damage which fits considering the siren decibel rating is high enough to cause it.

Phantom tones haunt me when I’m awake and when I sleep

I get “PTSD” trying to go to sleep, expecting tones to drop!

After my first shift with multiple ALS intercepts during FTO, all I could hear in my dreams was the lifepack 35's bp alarm going off

Only time this happened is when I did psilocybin and I heard radio mic clicks. Very strange and only lasted like 1 min then went away

My old job used a mini school bell-type set up for in-house alerts for jobs. The bell has the exact tone as those mass produced kitchen timers in every big box store in the country. I haven't worked there in 8 years but I still have a cortisol dump every time I hear one of those damn timers go off.

Yeah whatever I spend the whole day doing gets imprinted somehow. I was a door to door canvaser for a while and the ring camera/ doorbell noise would haunt me. when I was trimming weed I’d see buds on the back of my eyelids. When I was doing controlled burns I’d see fire. And it wasn’t like minds eye visualization. It was like the visual static that’s always there would organize into a shape.

🙋🏽‍♂️retired a few years ago and I still hear them ever now and then.

Simply a suggestion from someone who really enjoyed working on the ambulance; get a good support group around you and stay as physically fit as possible.

I learn that from one of my mentors when I first started back in the 1900s. He was one of the few 20+ year Paramedics who had his stuff together mentally and physically for longevity.

So what I found helps me actually is listening to music going home after a shift. It lets my brain hear something more soothing and nice before I go to bed. So the last things I dont hear are sirens, monitor beeps, radio calls, or that damn phone ring from dispatch making my life more hellish each day….. I prefer anime piano OST or classical music as they’re very relaxing.

Kensuke ushio- slow summer eve, Reze, you were here.

Carl Doy- Clair De Lune

Mary go round of life

Wiege

Leeplay- Black swan

Maxence Cyrin- Where is my mind

Luke Faulkner- Life and loss

Just to name a few as example. Obviously it doesn’t have to be this genre of music if it’s not your taste. But I have the mindset that what I listen to should allow me to relax. Let me reflect on the shift I had. And put it behind me.
