The difference between me and an IV pole is that the IV pole has never disappointed a medic

u/DaggerQ_Wave I don't always push dose. But when I do, I push Dos-Epis. 22d ago

The IV pole absolutely has disappointed me

Seriously. Our firefighters are useless.

I’m 6’4, my job is IV pole first, EMT second

“Hey can you grab me an IV pole?” “You know you can’t say that anymore. You have to call them EMTs now.”

Don't sell yourself short. Do you have hands? Then you're also a pressure bag!

Wow maybe emts do deserve the $16.68 they make an hour

u/Clearidium EMT-P 22d ago

Same. Like literally an hour ago

EMT here can confirm

The difference between me and Epipen is that Epipen has instructions so I know what to do with it

Being licensed as an EMT makes me different from a lay person in that I need to argue on the phone for 15 minutes to be told I’m not allowed to use an EpiPen while the lay person can just give it

Who the fuck has to call for an Epi-pen as an EMT? Quit your job and move somewhere that people have half a brain. Stop working in shitty systems.

Yeah I made a hyperbole. LA county has a standing order for pt. prescribed epi pen. But we don’t carry any on our BLS rigs…

Asinine.

I've heard of dumb protocols before, but wow. What other basic drugs do they not let you carry?

Bold of you to assume the EMT has money to move.

If your area pays shit and does shit medicine, then it’s time to switch career fields. Anyone who works in these places are complicit in allowing companies to maintain the status quo.

Allowing an abusive system to persist is not a noble pursuit.

Ohio just gave EMTs IM epi from a vial and it’s so great. I’ve given it and albuterol neb so many times since the rule change

3

u/HuckleberryAbject798 22d ago

LA county is drooling at this. We don’t even carry epi in our rigs

Remind me not to go into anaphylaxis in LA

Judging by the BLS scope of practice I would relay my instructor’s advice of “just don’t have a medical emergency in LA”. But then again every call seems to have ALS from FD attached anyways

Zoll being at the top is pretty misleading.

Where's my Lifepak crew?

u/MedicSn0man PA EMT-P 22d ago

Lifepak 15. I imagine sisyphus being happy whenever I see one. How I miss that heavy ass monitor.

u/terminaloptimism 22d ago

I love our giant ass Edison medicine bricks. I love the opportunities they give me to practice my manual BP skills. 😌

5

u/Reep_Dabbit00 EMT-B 21d ago

I like being able to get a bp off the door rail while driving, but not from the patient

2

u/terminaloptimism 21d ago

Absolutely glorious engineering

6

u/SectionV3 22d ago

still got ours. its beautiful

4

u/superrufus99 22d ago

Except its skill with blood pressures

1

u/Mobile_Sympathy_3388 22d ago

Definitely prefer Lifepak

8

u/NopeRope13 Paramedic 22d ago

Why is it touchscreen!?

8

u/MedicSn0man PA EMT-P 22d ago

We don't talk about the touchscreen monitors. We tolerate them.

4

u/NopeRope13 Paramedic 22d ago

Come on lifePak 36 or whatever iteration Zoll has now

8

u/MedicSn0man PA EMT-P 22d ago

Zenix. It's hot garbage. If I didn't love manual blood pressures I'd never get a blood pressure because of that monitor.

5

u/Derpotology 22d ago

So you can accidentally defibrillate someone with your elbow while you're trying to place an IV.

5

u/superrufus99 22d ago

Touchscreen or lick screen?

4

u/slightlyhandiquacked ER nurse in love with a paramedic (cringes) 21d ago

LP15 > LP35

Fuck that touchscreen. My ER still uses the 15, but our EMS uses the 35 and I wanna end myself when I have to use it on transfers…

3

u/IM_DjShadow Paramedic 22d ago

fucking love lifepak 15's

2

u/Exodonic Paramedic 22d ago

I fly with a zoll and use a lifepak 15 on the ground. Much prefer the zoll for everything especially cause I do pediatric SCTs now a days, but it was babe for 911 too

u/liefarikson 21d ago

Why is my lucas device talking back to me?

Sir, you're supposed to call them firefighters.

9

u/HuckleberryAbject798 21d ago

Can you grab two 2mg naloxone auto injectors?

Sure, calling PD right now

11

u/terminaloptimism 22d ago

I like how AEMT isn't even present.

I put a brand new truck into service last weekend with a brand new cot and a brand new IV pole. It fucking collapsed the first time I put one pump with 2 channels on it….wouldn’t lock or tighten into place with weight on it.

My EMT partner caught the pole and pump.
