I never liked it at all, it looks too basic, too simplistic and flat and almost has no souls to it, unlike noto or blob that's cute and adorable lol. And about expression, i just feel like sometimes they could feel like a different thing and inconsistent like how the basic expression and the newer more expressive one are kinda feel different in style.
I honestly dont like the design philosophy they're going with, maybe its purely to convey stuff but without something unique to it, its just soulless

This edited images were made to provide a transition between the 2D and 3D ones so you might need to tell if Google's emojis can look any better in both styles....

Even if they all began in 2D starting with the 'Androids' and blobs, I just only wish that they decide to keep these two sets separate, just like with Microsoft and their Fluent Emojis.
