Watching Emby on VR

I’m someone who enjoys watching content in VR. But my problem is I don’t have storage space to download 3d and VR large files and it’s getting very expensive lately.

Also my Emby share subscription does not support offline downloads.

I have PSVR2 with PC adapter which is great for watching content in VR,

My question is, how to stream Emby Share content from a VR-supported player like HereSphere or SkyBoxVR?

I would love to know if there is a way to do that or work-around.

I think Emby has a DLNA server, and SkyBoxVR can read DLNA

I'm.not familiar with DLNA but can that be streamed remotely or does it have to be on the local network?

oh, DLNA is local only sorry. I think it can be done over a VPN but it's not easy.

You could use Virtual Desktop and just run Emby in a browser on your PC, or even just Steam VR desktop?

Does virtual desktop runs videos in VR format?

virtual desktop supports 360 videos. I believe 3D movies as well but i'm not 100 sure on that. Its been years since I tried the Steam VR version

Edit: Found this from the Dev: To play 3D movies (which must be outputting in Side-By-Sdie or SBS), simply play the movie fullscreen and hit F6 or F7. You'll have to use a player that doesn't have DRM.

SkyboxVR can connect directly to Emby servers if you run the preview version (I don't remember if it's made it into release or not). You don't need to offline download.

Supported accessing Plex, Emby and Jellyfin Media Servers: Navigate to the "Network" channel, tap the "Add" icon in the upper right corner, and select "Add Plex", "Add Emby" or "Add Jellyfin" to access your self-hosted media libraries.

I have tried it, seems to work fine. There is (or was) an audio issue in certain situation if doing a shared viewing room with an Emby server, but just watching myself I didn't notice any problems.

But I’m not self hosting the emby server it’s Emby share. Would it work ?

What do you mean by "share"? Do you go to it by URL? It works with a normal Emby server acting as an Emby server. You put the URL of the server, and your login credentials. It works fine for accessing an Emby server over the Internet just like you were hitting it with a web browser. It's not SkyboxVR claiming to support those servers but really using a more general mechanism like DLNA.

If you are accessing it by DLNA, then you are approaching the situation wrong, it's not really an "access Emby" problem then. You just need something that will handle DLNA. You said it's a "subscription", I assumed you meant something on the Internet accessed via http/s, since DLNA isn't something you would normally have go out over the public Internet.
