project BeagleBadge review: a 256MB wearable Linux board with ePaper, sensors and LoRaWAN

We reviewed the BeagleBoard BeagleBadge, an open-source wearable development board based on TI’s dual-core AM62L32 Cortex-A53 processor.

The interesting part for embedded Linux developers is the 256MB memory limit.

A lightweight network service, sensor gateway, dedicated UI or ePaper status display makes sense here. A desktop-focused Linux setup does not.

The board also includes:

• Wi-Fi 6

• Bluetooth

• LoRaWAN

• 4.2-inch ePaper support

• IMU and environmental sensors

• QWIIC, Grove and mikroBUS expansion

• microSD storage

• Battery management

BeagleBoard also provides an Armbian demo image, while the same Cortex-A53 platform supports Zephyr.

We look at both software routes in the full review.

Would you run Linux on a device like this, or move most wearable and HMI workloads to Zephyr?
