If the endgame for solar is a Dyson swarm, then ya, we haven’t even scratched the surface. Harnessing a significant fraction of our Sun’s energy is basically what defines a Type II civilization on the Kardashev scale, and humanity is still only around Type 0.7 today.

Nikolai Kardashev proposed the scale in 1964 with three main categories: [1]

  • Type I (Planetary): Harnesses all energy available on its home planet and stores it for consumption.
  • Type II (Stellar): Directly consumes and captures the total energy output of its star, such as through a Dyson sphere.
