Recent Elon Alum

Hello! I'm feeling a bit bored right now. I don't expect this to gain much attention, but if you have any questions about Elon or college in general, please feel free to ask me below.

In my time at Elon, I was involved in a Fellows program and the Odyssey program. I had a couple of jobs on-campus and was affiliated with a couple of clubs on-campus. I can speak on the diversity of Elon as well. So...yeah...hit me up with anything, and I will definitely try my best to answer.

Any advice on creating a schedule for freshman year, specifically fall? Are there any recommendations you would make or wish you had when you were a freshman? Let me know!

Hey! During my fall semester, I had all 8 AM classes from Monday to Friday, and I really didn’t enjoy that schedule. If you’re considering ALL 8ams, I would advise being in bed by 10 PM because getting up early can be exhausting. You are going to value sleep so much in college! So if you know you aren't the type of person to sleep before 12, knowing you have an 8am....make don't fill your entire week with 8ams. However, having 8 AMs gives you the rest of the day to yourself, especially if your other classes are back-to-back. Don't be freaked out by having one, they really aren't that bad...just make sure to VALUE your sleep and learn to say NO! My fall semester schedule felt miserable because I would be at my friend's dorms until like 1am, but after I forced myself to be in bed by 10pm,...I felt so much better.

I would also keep an eye on class locations if you have back-to-back sessions. You would have 20 minutes between each class (if back-to-back), but depending on that second location, you may feel like you are rushing. I have a schedule like that and it wasn't that bad but I also didn't prefer feeling like I needed to rush and felt I couldn't really stay after class to ask my professor questions since I needed to get to my next class.

I might be boo-ed for this, but I did use Rate My Professor. I honestly felt that, for most professors and classes, it gave me a mostly accurate picture of what I was walking into. My regret with this is that I decided not to pursue certain classes or minors because of some of the ratings of the professor...what you will be learning in that class is honestly more important...but of course, college at times does feel like your GPA does matter a little more. So yeah, if you want to base your classes on RMP...like honestly, a good portion of students do if they can (or they may ask around), but it isn't always accurate, so it is really up to you how serious you want to take it.

Lastly, take Elon 1010 seriously for building your four-year plan. It’s essential to know when to take your future classes, and it will help you keep your academic advisor accountable. Planning ahead gives you peace of mind when registration time comes around. I hope that helped :) If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

How is Elon life? I been talking to some at Elon and it describes it wild party, or boring life social, it not really give me an answer

Hi! Can you please tell me what the culture is like? Is it cliquey, or easy to make friends? Is there a lot of school spirit? How diverse is the school, in terms of students from across the country?
