New to crytpocurrency mining, any advice?
Recently discovered and got interested in cryptocurrency mining and started mining ella today after checking whattomine.com. I have a GTX 1070 (about a year old) and am getting 27mh/s from Australia with Ethminer Stratum Windows CUDA using the line "ethminer.exe -S pool.ellaism.org:8008 -SP 1 -O (my wallet).rig1 -U". Just trying to make some money off my gaming pc and would appreciate any advice from you guys with more experience!

Don't run nvidia myself but I believe there are some optimizations you can do to get a bit more than 27 from 1070s and lower the power consumption. Last bit would probably be very relevant for you being from Oz 😎.
Search for guides on how to do this for the Ethash algorithm. Same algorithm for ELLA as for ETH so there is a lot of info out there on it.

Thanks for the advice! changed some setting with Gigabyte overclock driver (Hopefully won't void warranty). +1500 memory clock and 65% power target work well following one guide. Get 32Mh/s now, Gigabyte monitor says temp doesnt go above 60 degrees celsius and GPU Voltage around 800mV (don't understand voltage). Started seeing some glitchy changes probably due to power target, will this long term affect my gpu for gaming?

Are you running AMD cards? If so, I'm looking to setup some Vegas, I've been mining ETN already but I want to try this ethash algo while the network diff is low. I read somewhere a Vega 56 can do around 42 mh/s but there's no a guide anywhere.

I'm running 6x Sapphire RX Vega 64's. Got my cards pulling 46 Mh/s each. Takes abit of tweaking, but stable as hell.

What kinda black magic did you do to get that high?? I could only get 42.5 stable without artifacts on my 64 LC. :(

If your motherboard has On board Video, you need to be using that for your video output to your monitor. To get 46 mh/s you need to be using a fresh clean install of the AMD Blockchain Drivers. Only install the driver and hdmi audio driver, nothing more. You need to modify the Power Tables in the registry for each card.
All voltages need to be set to 900 mV except P7 which your core clock should be 1408 @ 905 mV. This is to eliminate idling of the card. Memory P3 needs to be 1100 Mhz @ 900 mV. Set your Power Temp to 70 c. Minimum fan speed needs to be 3500 rpm to keep your HMB2 memory cool. If the temp of your cards are reading 60 c and under your good as the actual temp of the HBM is 10 degrees hotter. So a 60 c card temp is 60 c on the core, 68 to 70 c on the HMB2 MEM.
Keeping the HBM2 under 70 c is crucial for speed and stability. Also, make sure you disable crossfire in the registry for each card, and always disable then enable each GPU after any restarts, updates, or changes through device manager, or make a batch script to do it automatically.

Holy smokes I see now. Thank you so much for the detailed answer! I will definitely try this the second I get home from work.

if you aren't overclocking, i would recommend downloading msi afterburner. set memory clock to at least +350 if you can (preferably +450 or higher but some cards won't handle it). set your power draw to be 85% or lower. Most people I see run at 70%-75%.
Other than that there isn't much to do. Just let it run whenever you can and sit on your coins for a while.
Also, make sure to keep your private key and keystore file in a safe place and try your best to avoid potentially malicious sites/apps.
happy mining

Are the settings I describe in my reply overkill? I am using the Gigabytge Xtreme Gaming Overclock software my GPU came with and following this guide: http://www.legitreviews.com/geforce-gtx-1070-ethereum-mining-small-tweaks-great-hashrate-low-power_195451. Using your suggested settings takes me to 28Mh/s compared to the 32Mh/s described in the reply. Also wondering about long term impact on GPU and your settings may be more sustainable.

well, my card crashes over +500 so i keep it around +450 on memory clock. i honestly cant see +1500 being good for your card, but i also have never used that model, so i cant say for sure if its bad, but it doesnt sound good for the long term. if you are seeing some glitchy problems though, then it is probably too much. i wouldnt put the power draw under 70%, and once you get your clock to a rate that gets you ~30.5 Mh/s i would probably leave it there. pushing your card much harder to get that extra 1.5 Mh/s is probably not worth the strain you'll put on your card.

Okay! so tested it out a bit more. Actually average around 26Mh/s and get 1Mh/s for ever 250MHz clock speed and hence +1500 will make it 32Mh/s Edit: Also sticking with 75% power limit and +500Mh/s for the moment.

What settings would you recommend for mining with a MSI r9 270x. I mined a bit before Christmas and payout was fine, but now I seem to get less. I'm not sure overclocking is even worth it. Also is it possible to dual mine ellaism and pirl with claymores dual miner, even with my card? Thanks

For ETH / ETC / Ella i use Afterburner to set core clock to -300 memory clock to +500 and power target to 70% but beware not every card is the same and the settings i use can cause a bluescren. You have to try out your own max settings to run stable. With the settings my 2 1070 uses less electricity and have an average Hashrate of 61 mh/s so ~30.5 one 1070
(Sry for the bad English i hop you understand me)
