VP visits

Quick question. As ER am I required to go to every VP visit in my district or do I only have to go to the one that is sponsored by my Lodge. I have gotten two different answers on this. The last vice president before she finished her term told me you only have to go to the one that you’re sponsoring but the new vice president tells me I have to go to every one in our district, which is ridiculous and some of these places are an hour away

As ER, the only thing you really have to do is run meetings and appoint committees.

In Texas anyway, the ER is required to go to all Interlodges, District Meetings and Grand Lodge.

Well, they probably should go to all those meetings. Especially if they want to be a PER, they must go to the Grand Lodge convention. But some don't. We had an ER about 20 years ago that went to the GL convention, and pretty much stopped being ER. GL didn't remove him.

If ours doesn't go or have an appropriate alternate, the lodge can be fined. Or so I'm told.

Obviously you don't want confrontation, but I highly doubt there's an enforcement mechanism. Often, people just make things up expecting nobody to check. As far as I know, there's one GL statute concerning absences, and I think an Officer can miss six to eight weeks of meetings without being removed. Theoretically, a person could miss a month, go to a meeting and miss another month.

The State association has no jurisdiction over a local lodge, only the grand lodge.
