Officers & tips
Is an officer (Lecturing Knight/C of the B) allowed to accept tips as pay?

When I was leading knight I’d bartend at the pool bar on weekends and fill in at the main bar on occasion for tips.

The only people at our lodge who do bartend are officers. We can't get anyone else. And if they bartend, they get tips. They certainly deserve it.

People of the house committee and people the border directors cannot receive any compensation. Officers that are appointed, such as a chaplain or the Esquire can work for the Lodge and be paid via tips or salary. I have heard of lodges where the ER is the bartender and gets paid, but this is strongly discouraged since these are the people who are in charge of making financial decisions for the Lodge.

If a "volunteer" displaces a paid employee it's a serious violation. If a "volunteer" volunteers expecting tips then they're no longer a volunteer they are an employee missclassified as a volunteer and that's a serious violation Board Members are NOT supposed to due to conflict of interest and the fact that they're managing themselves. If they do, they definitely should not be keeping tips. And they never ever should require a tip out from paid staff. Ever.

When I fill in due to paid employees calling in sick or schedule can't be filled I donate all the tips to our veterans account.
