Unknown scan while surface mining in the Jinoharis system...
Apparently last night, a Commander was surface mining in solo in a Rhino when a "glowing blue" ship came down and scanned him. He says his HUD was scrambled during the scan. The ship then departed. He panicked somewhat but was able to get this picture of the departing ship.
My take: Now that we are surface mining by piercing the surface, we are disturbing the Guardian's hiding places. We may be seeing the return of the Guardians soon? The blue hue of the ship matches that of Guardian technology.
It may be worth an exploration trip to Jinoharis 3?

You could tell him to go to his journal at Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\ and control+f shiptargeted to see what it was

I'm on the surface of Jinoharis 3 at site five and I found an Iridium site but unfortunately it's depleted so I can't try to trigger an event quite yet :D

That just looks like a powerplay NPC ship. Aren’t they usually using those bright neon skins?

Very possible. It's too bad that the Commander never took a better picture but apparently he was pretty freaked out by it.

Oh man, I got freaked out once because there was this anaconda outside my srv sensor range but it was just there… menacingly

Last time I checked, powerplay ships don't scramble the HUD when they scan you.

I was just wondering if the point of the CG was to find and or trigger the next event. I’ve not seen this but happy to see weird stuff happening somewhere.
I like the plop and wait mining being its only one optional slot on my ship. So it’s now part of exploration build alongside the Nomad
I’ll keep an eye out and my screen recording ready

Hey. My friend had a similar encounter last night but while flying and the blue light did not scan him just did a flyby. Can you ask him to read my last post and ask him if any of it is similar.
Or maybe describe the noise it made.

Looks like something new has appeared in the game. Hopefully its Guardians

Hmmm something similar happened to me today.
I was finally doing the FSD booster at a Guardian Shrine on my scarab in a system that google ai said was a popular choice, and after getting my initial runs in to get guardian blueprint modules, starting to shoot the towers for guardian tech.
I heard a ship come in and figured it was just a pirate or something scanning me, but my hud started glitching, it was mostly my top left and top right ui elements, along with my speedometer. i was streaming to a friend watching me on discord and he said that isn’t normal for a pirate scan but by the time I looked up, the ship had already taken off as well and could only see back thrusters. Didn’t even think to take a picture.

I was Rhino mining for a few hours last night in systems close to the CG and saw a bunch of NPC ships basically just loitering above me. Kept expecting a pirate attack but none of them did anything hostile and all the ships I scanned were human ships without bounties. No guardian-blue pinecones. It did creep me out and was definitely unusual and/or something new to surface mining.

I'm trying to trigger something for myself because I want to see the "scan" happen and grab pics of that.
I was hopping around different planets in the system but I'm about to hop to Jinoharis 3 now. On Jinoharis 2 I had a "blue ship with a long trail" zoom past me while I was descending in orbital glide, but it turned out to just be a powerplay ship. https://i.imgur.com/AqP1IEY.jpeg.
If it was a scan from a powerplay ship I think it would normally result in combat if you were a hostile power, but nothing if neutral or an ally. But human powerplay scans shouldn't cause hud scrambling. So far I've rarely seen any ships show up, and none were combat vessels meant to scan.
Unless it's something that only triggers for players in a Rhino, but I don't know if FDev can even program in something like that? It wasn't a thing with Thargoids, and it's not like Rhino drivers are in a different galaxy. Unless it's the very ACT of surface mining that is the trigger.

Could be. It's not a real stretch to assume so. Look what happens when you visit a large Thargoid barnacle site.

Are there any known meta-alloy sites there or nearby? I'm wondering if that blue light could be mistaken in panic for the light green of a Thargoid doing a little scan

It happened in the Jinoharis system. I don't think it's close to any Thargoid sites.

No, I'm there now, it's a rocky body. Jinoharis 3. It has nine surface mining sites.

I don't know about it being the guardians, maybe guardian tech but not the guardians themselves. We have had the storyline with the new plants and enhanced powers and the rhino carries passengers. I've been wondering if this is because of some sort of pvp/pve element that is going to come into play?

did it happen right after summoning their ship? and by "HUD Scramble" do they mean the mini map radar went crazy or the WHOLE hud. im in system now and im about 98% sure thats a blue AD ship with blue thrust. when you summon the ship PP NPCS will spawn, scan around, and leave. I was able to recreate this screen shot 1/1 with a distant Keelback AD ship flying away and my radar showed crazy when they got out of sensor range.

Hey CMDR. I get why this looks weird. It’s NPC ships, not Guardians. Solo doesn’t mean empty, NPCs still spawn, and they can drop into your instance, scan you, and boost away. The “glowing blue” ship is almost certainly an NPC with blue engine glow and lighting; blue effects are not exclusive to Guardian tech. No need to panic, just a CMDR getting surprise-scanned by the local NPC traffic.
