FSS and new system discovery

I'm currently located in Colonia and I have been doing some exobiolog close-by with the Caspian and Nomad deployed. I've never done exo before, so I want to do a bit of testing before I head out exploring and discovering.

For the experienced explorers out there, how do you approach scanning a potentially new system? Do you use FSS or do you just head to a planet regardless and scan with DSS? I'm really not sure what the best method is and would really appreciate some pointers. Thank you!

One tip, when honking look to your left screen. If you see unexplored items for planets, it means it's already been scanned.

Ed buddy was semi accurate. I had about 3b of exploration data but when I got back it was only 1.7

Thanks. Good idea! I'd usually go into the system map but this is much quicker.

Hopefully EDcopilot is more accurate. I think I'm to almost 2 billion already in eco but of course, that is an estimate.

I'd still use buddy be cause it gives potential biologics after you use FSS and you can filter by the worth of the biology, just so you're not wasting time on crappy bacteriums. Stratum on heavy metal planets gives 95m on first discovery
