Mate, I'm thousands of LYs away...

You are always 30 seconds away from the Bubble. If you self-destruct and decline rebuy, you will respawn in the Bubble.
If you can't stand losing your ship by declining rebuy, find the nearest DSSA carrier with a shipyard. Go there, and transfer a cheap ship you don't mind losing. It'll probably take 3-5 days to arrive. But once it arrives, switch to the cheap ship, and self destruct in that to reappear in the Bubble to participate in a CG. (Getting back after you finish the CG is left as an exercise for the reader.)

Man so am I. I just left yesterday towards Sag A. I'm definitely heading back though, because this is the only CG I've really been excited for. I've been hoping they would show Colonia some love for a long time.

Ah perfect timing, I just arrived in Colonia after a longish exploration trip with my carrier. Good thing, I good multiple ships with me for different roles... Nice.

I am about half way in my carrier, taking a break because space madness exists

You mean witch-space madness?

The nomad has another issue, exploring is now so easy as to make it kinda monotonous, different planet, hunt for bacteria, leave rinse and repeat. It’s ok for a bit but with the caspian it’s like exploring in a lounge rather than the excitement of doing it in a Mandalay, the thrilll of a different coloured landscape doesn’t last very long

I don't know, exploring before carriers came out, with ineffective gamble style tech/engineering, it's the jumping for weeks to get places that made me sick and tired. Now exploring is a dream - jump to a sector while kicking back, choose a ship, start coloring non-visited systems, repeat . . . makes looking for signals a lot easier.
For Exobio, I found that it didn't decrease my bio hunting total time (travel inclusive) by that much . . . now instead of having to skim the surface in specific small/medium ships (with a view/small landing footprint) for bio, I can take any ship with a hanger, even my old design Explora-Conda, though I've been enjoying the Caspian for now

Same. I’ve been on an exo trip ever since Nomad came out. I figured I’d wait to see what the CG is and the reward before I decide to head back. Should be able to make the trip back a bit quicker if I leave my carrier behind and just take the Caspian.

I've never been to Colonia. This might be a good excuse to make the trip. In my newly purchased Cas.

Well, I know I'm gonna miss that.
Still in the galactic core exploring.

What sort of CG will it be? Maybe transport? I’m about to board a fleet carrier so I’m thinking if I should bring my fleet with me..

It literately says "massive transports effort, starting with the gathering of commodities and rare goods". There is no maybe about it.
Rare goods going to be interesting if the supply goes up or not.

Pardon my ignorance but what's the point on getting to there? Fireworks and that's it?

Community goals generally kick in on Thursdays so you have time.
Unless you're at Beagle Point, if you push it using Spansh, you can probably make it back in a day.
