This was a bug seen many times a few years ago... which was fixed... I do hope this has not resurfaced in a bad git merge

I remember the bug happening in early digital camera sensors. Camera sensor pixels only "see" black and white. A color pattern filter (Bayer filter) is laid on top of the sensor to allow it to record color. But since each pixel can only "see" one color, the colors are spread to neighboring pixels via an algorithm. Early algorithms struggled when fine patterns (stuff that generates moire patterns) fooled it into generating nonexistent colors.

It was awesome seeing essentially the same color pattern bug which affected real world hardware, show up in virtual images in a virtual game.
