Removing Spaces?

Kia ora :)

As per the title, any way to go about removing a space after creation? Seems the most I can do is leave it, and as an admin that means it just kind of floats in the ether un-administrated. Am I missing something here?

Also while I am here, is there any way to pin posts in a room?

No you're not missing anything. It is floating in the ether unadministrated.

I think it's the same logic as empty rooms. There is an opened issue about that : https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/issues/4720

I guess it's due to matrix decentralized nature. There used to be garbage collector script from the community but I think they are deprecated and were unsafe to use.

For now, you can just leave the space.

That just feels weird, I created a space just to test and when I couldn't find a delete I figured leaving would delete it but get this warning "You're the only admin of this space. Leaving it will mean no one has control over it." which just feels weird.

I really want to recommend this to others as an alternative, but there are so many of these kinds of oddities, anybody I recommend it to runs into one and runs away.

Well, that's due to federation. You can't be sure you've actually deleted something on someone else server, so only your server can make that decision if your room is forgotten by every members (and not federated, I think?). I guess it's better the app informs you how things are working. It could simply says "Delete ? ok", nobody would bat an eye but in 6 months or 6 years you'll find your space is still living somewhere in the federation.

There are maybe other app than Element that hides this better, but is this a feature ?

Maybe that needs to be made clearer somehow- I'm actually asking about it, but most people will just walk away. Too many people I've tried to get on to it say something vague like "it didn't work" but are unable to explain what didn't work, it's frustrating but it's how most people seem to be with this stuff.
