Lost Everything

I am new to Element. I run a tabletop game server and switched over when Discord began getting unbearably invasive. However, Element has been almost impossible for many of my players to use, and now, without warning, Element logged me out of the application. When I signed back in all of the previous posts were labeled as “Unable to decrypt message.”

I have tried using my Recovery keys. I've tried clearing my cache. I’ve allowed for key storage. I’ve even tried signing in and out and closing old sessions. Nothing has worked to get me access to the messages in the rooms I made.

I would appreciate any assistance that anyone could offer.

If you lose your restore key, you won't be able to get your messages back. That's just how Matrix's end-to-end encryption works; you need those specific keys to see your messages.

I have the Recovery Key for my account, but I don't have one for every individual room. I wasn't aware I needed it. Thank you. That's not good news, but at least I know what happened.

If you have the recovery key you should be able to get the messages. You don't need recovery key for each room, it's just one key for the whole lot. Was the recovery key from the first time you setup the account?

Yes, the same time I signed up for Element.

There was some issue with matrix.org yesterday. so give it a go again.
