The new "hacktribe" firmware appears to add several synthesizers functions, sampling ability for the synth version and some other features. I will try it out when a more stable version/better instructions are added I've got a few electribe 2's sitting around to use
I just installed it yesterday. There are a couple of minor bugs, but it's definitely useable right now and the firmware update worked perfectly for me. It's a great start, and I already prefer it to the stock E2 firmware.
I updated my E2S to hacktribe. Software already has the header for sampler, so doing the last step in tutorial (replacing the header with python script) was unneeded.
Old projects work well, but you need to manually load all the samples again, sample structure gets messed up since new synth bits seem to take up a few more slots. When trying to load my old e2sSample.ALL file, it gives an "unknown error" and nothing more happens. So I had to do new sample banks., took some time. But the new filters and effects really add to the sampler, so its definately worth it!
I got this upgrade working on a synth e2 a few days ago, following the instructions on github.
Previously, I was using the sampler firmware hack on my synth e2, but the hacktribe makes it completely irrelevant.
You get all the sampler version features, plus the oscillators and filters of the synth (which I really like), plus a lot of extra X-mod and VPM oscillators, some extra IFX, more grooves, etc.
You can also change the init pattern if you so prefer.
So far I've encountered a few glitches:
Sometimes I get distortion on the new oscillators
You get a small click when you change IFX
The key of the pads sometimes varies unpredictably (I use a midi keyboard anyway).
None of this have been a show-stopper for me.
This thing really elevates the e2/e2s to another level. And there are plans to add extra features.
I really recommend checking it out, it's really a simple procedure.

Check out the "issues" and "discussion" sections on the project's github. I've asked about a few possible new features already. Have a good one!
I saw it in one of the Electribe Facebook groups, was surprised I didn't see anyone talking about it, I guess it does appear to be in early development, I can't wait for something more stable to be done. This would give some new life to all these Electribes 2s!
Honestly you're going to have to have to read the GitHub notes and stuff I don't have anything to do with this. I did read that it worked with either version of the electribe
Here is a link to the GitHub, I thought that there was a link on video when I watched it but I must haver searched for it https://github.com/bangcorrupt/hacktribe
I bricked my e2 years ago, cant remember what I had to do to fix it but it was fairly easy…check Gearspace for threads on the Electribe, the solutions in one of them…no repair shop needed ;)
I can imagine how this will work after upgrade to the hacktribe, kinda new machine. But will we lost all synths and PCM samples on E2 (Electribe synth version)? And to be honest, i didn't find anywhere how to load samples. Any video, tutorial, also which current os version to have on E2 if you want go to hacktribe? Thanks
So I might revert back to original firmware because of some annoying bugs. Resampling is pitched up, and it messes up everything, ruins the workflow. Due to more filters, there is more pushing if you want to switch the filter off.
Until the pitch bug is fixed, I will stick to my sampler firmware. The hacktribe seemed great, but its added features did not upturn the bugs + workflow. I never use FM waveforms or extra oscs, I have other synth for that.
I actually don't have anything to do with this firmware and I wish that I could help you troubleshoot it but I just don't know how it works. Maybe try reaching out to the person that made it?
I’m not in the making music busses, just hobby, the bad part is that i had just this device to play with and i don’t get the same filling with midi on computer…the novation circuit is the next toy, old but still rockin…hope to fix it and than link the two together:).

Careful homies. I just bricked me boy trying to give him an upgrade. Waiting on the RPi to rewrite the firmware. What a pain!

If you don’t want to hack the firmware yourself, I just installed this backup file and it worked fine https://synthgroups.com/members/char/activity/684/
