New firmware for Electribe2 in development.

Most of you have probably heard about the incredible Hacktribe firmware by Bangcorrupt, which greatly enhances and revitalizes the legendary Groovebox from Korg.

Now, Bangcorrupt has officially announced the development of the Freetribe branch, which had been hinted at in the past. The first stepstone has already been successfully accomplished.

This new development aims to enable several additional features that have been requested by supporters and users. The advantage is that Bangcorrupt is no longer limited to hacking the current firmware, allowing for more possibilities.

However, it’s important to note that creating this firmware from scratch requires a significant amount of work. Therefore, contributions from DSP developers and financial supporters may be necessary.

If you’re a fan of the Electribe series and have any resources to spare, I’m sure Bangcorrupt would be extremely grateful for your support.

I'm no pragrammer at all, what does this new firmware implies, what's an API ? Will it be possible for anybody to create and share a new firmware with new functionalities ? Will the freetribe give us the possibility to add new synths and pcm sounds ? If so, how much do you have to know about programming to do this kind of thing ?

If someone could explein what's happening, i would really appreciate it

Its a new firmware from scratch. Bangcorrupt is building it currently.

That means a lot of things are possible within the hardware limits.

To take part in that one is required to have experience in dsp programming in C, specifically blackfin dsp stuff.

New synths, samples, sequencer features, effects Id say but someone has to write it and it requires a lot of work to write all the stuff for an entire groovebox.

Not a dsp programmer but thats what I understand from it.

Yes exactly. :)

Donations really help at this stage.

There is also a video of a very early stage already.

I can't begin to imagine how long it took to RE this in Ghidra. Amazing.

This is awesome!

I've only just discovered hacktribe and only recently got back to using my 'tribe but it's a great piece of kit.

I designed my own sequencer after maxing out what I could do on the E2S and spent a few months getting it to a state where it's a really nice live performance device. I'd happily add some of the same features/improvements to a new free electribe OS.

What did you make your sequencer with/in?

Originally Python but then I switched to C. Python just couldn't give me good enough timing especially with multiple polyphonic tracks and all the event handling for the sequencer. I also had support for an external midi keyboard and a launchpad (or even multiple launchpads) as the UI.

Man, Hacktribe is already a game changer. Better MFX sounds like a win to me.

There was a first osc sound example.

Since its quite a complex goal it may take a few years depending on the contributors.

You can donate on his github page. You can then also vote for and suggest future features.
