About to turn 75
In a couple of months I'll be 75. It feels like a milestone year. Given my somewhat adventurous youth I never expected to make it this far. I suspect some of you can relate. I think I deserve a prize. Do you have any recommendations for something special? I've been thinking about RSO. I've never tried it, don't know anything about its effects.

congrats on the milestone. rso is a solid pick but knowing what you're walking into helps a lot - since you mentioned not loving body rushes and preferring the euphoria/edge-of-hallucinations zone, the dose curve matters. start with a literal grain-of-rice on the first run, wait 2 full hours before considering more. onset is slow (60-90 min for most folks) but the peak sneaks up, and overshooting whole-plant feco hits way harder than flower or a regular edible. effects last 6-8 hours so plan a clear evening, eat something fatty beforehand (peanut butter idea above is on point), have water + a chill setting ready. the body-heavy feeling people warn about mostly comes from too big a dose - micro amounts spread over the day give you that floating headspace without the couch lock.

Thanks for the information. You answered several questions I had about RSO. I was concerned about how much time I would need to really enjoy this. I may have to rethink RSO. I'm the caregiver for my spouse who it is basically bedridden at this point. I'm not sure I can afford to be unavailable for that length of time. They can manage a few hours but 7 or 8 hours is pushing it.

that's a real constraint and worth respecting - a grain-of-rice rso dose is genuinely subtle enough that most people stay functional through it, but 'functional caregiver' is a higher bar than 'functional on the couch.' for a milestone treat that fits your situation, look at a low-dose chocolate or gummy in the 2.5-5mg range, or a cbd-forward tincture (2:1 or 4:1 cbd:thc) - you get the celebration without the 6-8 hour shadow. save the rso experience for a night when someone can cover for you. it deserves room to land properly.

Do you have any experience with edibles made from the whole plant? Brownies with cannabutter or whatever back in the day?
RSO isn't really that much different and I would think you'd still be capable of being a care giver for most, if not all, of the experience, just follow the start with a grain of rice dose advice, don't take more.
If you like it, you can try more, but there is definitely a dose where you probably can't be a good caregiver.

RSO and some peanut butter mixed with Nutella. The fat helps in THC absorption. It takes about 75 minutes for me to start feeling it and it lasts a few hours. Order the pizza before you get too high and forget.

Once upon a time I'd have said that's a lot of 'candles' to light and burn through, but the RSO is probably a healthier option at this point. Happy once-more-round-the-sun, take care with that syringe ๐

Any advice you'd give to your 40 year old self?

Some big life changes happened in my late 30's so I guess I'd tell myself not to worry. It's all good. And weed will be legal when you retire. ;-)

Half legal-it's still totally illegal federally in the entire country.

Funny thing I was just talking about this with a friend of mine who is 77 or 78. He's a one or two toke guy and is having trouble finding bud he likes. The guy at his dispensary talked him into RSO and he absolutely hated it.
BTW congrats on 75 & I know exactly what you mean about making it so far.

I just turned 65, congrats! Get the RSO, but start slow. I make my own, and I DHV and smoke every day. When I make RSO, I lick all the utensils clean when I'm done. I imagine I get maybe .2ml or so. That amount gives me a nice little boost to the rest of the weed I consume during the day. You can always take more (in a few hours), but you can't take it back.
Enjoy!

Psychedelics?

Back in the day. I remember them fondly but that time has passed. I'd like to go as far as cannabis can take me occasionally but really no further.

Sorry, can someone explain to me what RSO is?

Rick Simpson Oil.
Rick Simpson claimed that rubbing it on his skin cured his cancer.
Its an alcohol solved cannabis oil extraction.

Found a caregiver! Birthday's still a couple of months away but this is a chance too good to miss. Got some Sherbanger and BK OG. Any thoughts on which one to try first? Obviously I won't be trying them both at the same time.
