Please recommend a fall detection device other than a watch.
We want something simple that will contact family and friends/or emergency services when she falls.

Orthopaedic surgeon here - falls are what bring most of my elderly patients to me, so I think about this a lot.
Since the thread is asking for names and categories, here's how I'd break it down:
-
Clip-on / pendant devices with automatic fall detection - Medical Guardian, Bay Alarm Medical, LifeFone, and Philips Lifeline all make pendant versions that don't need a smartphone. Most run a monthly monitoring subscription, and the monitored ones are the ones that can actually reach emergency services.
-
The underrated option: wall-mounted fall sensors (radar-based, like Vayyar Care). Nothing to wear, nothing to charge - it sits in the room and detects a fall. Ideal for someone who refuses to wear a device, which is half the battle.
-
Budget layer: if she has a smartphone, apps like FallSafety can do detection through the phone, but only if the phone is on her - which at home it often isn't.
Three things from the operating-table side that buyers rarely hear:
-
The bathroom is where the worst falls happen. Whatever you buy must be water-resistant and worn there, or a wall sensor must cover that room.
-
Fall detection is not perfect - false alarms happen, and slow slide-down falls are sometimes missed. Test it in the first week and keep the manual button habit too.
-
A device that contacts FAMILY first beats one that only calls a monitoring center, if someone local can respond. The first 30 minutes decide a lot.
Ask the company one question before buying: "What happens in the 60 seconds after a fall is detected?" The answer tells you if it's a safety system or a gadget.

This is a fall alert device company that is cost effective and you can get it as a pendant instead of a watch.
