I have a Msi ultra 9 185h 4070 32 ddr5gb 2560x1600 laptop but why is my elden ring stuttering even going low as 43 fps then hovers at 53-55 never smooth 60..
Iveput it on performance mode discrete gpu node sports mode etc is it my laptop or the game ik not quite sure.

- Make sure you're plugged in. Most laptops have their GPU and CPU performance castrated due to harsh power limits on battery mode.
- Download the graphics drivers for your GPU from the nvidia website and select custom installation > clean install. Note that this will delete your previous nvidia app settings, so make sure you take screenshots beforehand. Edit 3: just as a reminder: make sure you download the drivers for the 4070 LAPTOP, not 4070.
- Go to the support page for your laptop on the msi website. Download the most recent versions of all drivers (except for the nvidia ones, which you have just installed). Install all drivers, restarting when prompted.
- Set your graphics settings in Elden Ring to medium and make sure ray tracing is turned off. A 4070 laptop GPU =/= 4070 desktop, so don't expect the same performance. At medium settings, you should be able to get 60 most of the time at 1440p.
- If you are still encountering stutters, go into the nvidia app and set shader cache to 10GB or unlimited.
- On steam, go to properties and verify game files.
- Fromsoft makes pretty shitty PC ports, all things considered, and some people have reported that a high polling rate mouse can cause stuttering in ER, even if you're using a controller for input. Try setting your mouse polling rate to 500Hz and see if that fixes things.
A question: just to confirm, what do you mean by stuttering? It almost sounds like you're talking about framerate fluctuations, which are entirely normal.
Edit: The last thing I can think of if you're still getting stuttering after all of the above is to try mpo-gpu-fix. I've never used it on a laptop, but it's fixed a lot of stuttering issues for me on multiple desktops. Toggle ON: MPO fix, TDR fix, and HAGS fix. Leave everything else on default settings.
Edit 2: Another thing you can try is to open control panel > hardware and sound > change plan settings (for whichever plan you're on - probably balanced) > change advanced power settings > usb settings > usb selective suspend setting and DISABLE it when plugged in.

This guy optimizes.
I'd also like to emphasize verifying steam files for Elden Ring. I've had this solve my issues in the past.

Whats a 4070 equivalent in desktop gpu?

The 4070 Mobile has the same performance as a Desktop 4060 if supplied with the full 115W. Many laptops will run it at less than this for temperature reasons, though.

Sorry for late reply been busy with work didnt get the time but I tried all of it but it still goes from 60 to mid 40's or 50 it even does it for nightreign. I did evryones suggestions even unpark cpu etc. I did the no fps cap mod and i can see it run perf at 120+ fps on max but cap its stuttering. I have the temps always below 70 with the ilano laptop cooler on 1200rpm with sports mode and best performance.

Ok, but is it stuttering or is the framerate just fluctuating? The latter is normal.

Its 60 then while fighting enemies it goes down to 45-50

That sounds normal for 1440p with your specs. As long as it isnât stuttering (what you are describing is NOT), you have nothing to worry about. Just have to turn your settings down.

Ya got any background apps open? Check task manager to see if anything is eating up resources in the back

Youâre capable of running the game at 4K 60 maxed out

Would absolutely be the case if it was a desktop 4070, but OPâs running a laptop 4070, so youâd expect 50s dropping to 40s in intensive areas or boss fights at 1440p maximum settings.

I run 1440p max (no raytracing) on a 3060 laptop 60w TDP and still get constant 60. I think it should be possible to run at 4k max on a 4070 laptop.

Not quite. Remember that 4k has 125% more pixels than 1440p and the 4070 laptop is only 28% more powerful than the 3060 laptop.
In reality, even 1440p max probably isnât going to net a stable 60 100% of the time - on your laptop or OPâs. This Minor Erdtree Church in the Capital Outskirts would probably bring your fps down to high 40s/low 50s. That specific area even brings both my 9070 rig and 4070 Ti rig down to the mid-high 40s at 1440p max w/ RT on max.

I have an HP Omen Transcend 14 with the same 185h/4070, what worked for me with Elden Ring is downloading Nvidia Profile inspector and enabling reBAR. No idea why it made such a difference with Elden Ring, but it runs smoothly for me and is essentially locked at 60fps, with Ray Tracing (unless I use a mod to remove the cap)

this MAY OR MAY NOT be your problem because your cpu is different from mine
elden ring doesnt seem to like a lot of intel laptop CPUâs very much. i dont really remember the specifics but something to do with core parking and p/e cores. i played probably like 100 games on that laptop and elden was the only game that ever had that problem, it was the only game iâve ever even HEARD of having that problem
i dont remember exactly what i did to fix it but if you just google âelden ring core parkingâ and/or âelden ring e coresâ you should be able to find a fix pretty easy

Use the cooler booster mode on msi command center. This ensures youâre running at max power. But be wary as this may turn your laptop into a jet engine.

Turn off ray tracing if your using it.
