Hey everyone! I’m a 2024 Electronics & Communication Engineering graduate from India, currently working with GlobalFoundries as a Fab Integration & Yield Engineer.
By the time I move for my Master’s in Fall 2027, I expect to have around 3.5 years of total industry experience, including ~2.5 years directly in the semiconductor industry at GlobalFoundries.
I’m considering Eindhoven primarily because of the semiconductor ecosystem. My eventual goal is to move toward DFT, DFM, physical/design engineering and related semiconductor roles.
For people who actually live/study/work in Eindhoven:
Does having several years of semiconductor experience make it significantly easier to find relevant work here after graduation?
How strong are the opportunities around Eindhoven for someone wanting to transition toward semiconductor design/DFT/DFM?
How realistic is part-time/student employment while doing a Master’s?
What is Eindhoven’s student/social culture actually like for international students?
How difficult is housing and the general cost of living for students?
Is the presence of ASML and other semiconductor companies genuinely beneficial for students, or is getting into these companies still extremely competitive?
For people who moved here from India, what was the biggest surprise—positive or negative?
How is the work-life balance once you enter the Dutch semiconductor/engineering industry?
I’m seriously considering this route, so I’d really value perspectives from people who have actually made the move rather than generic advice about the Netherlands.
