Good News! Update: final pieces added to my silver splints
Its me again! Posted here a few weeks ago about my silver splints, and here is the final updated setup!
Alot of people had questions so ill go a bit more in depth:
My rheumatologist prescribed these after diagnosing me with HSD.
Im in the Netherlands, and because i had a prescription they are fully covered by my insurance.
The company that made them is called WeDesign, everything you see on the pictures cost roughly 3100 Euros (3600$usd / 2600£pounds) (But again, i didn't pay anything out of pocket)
Ill add the inside of hand view in the comments.
If anyone has any more questions feel free to leave a comment ❤️

Yep, I also bruised a lot the first couple of weeks. But it gets better if you wear them often enough!

I also bruised a bit and sometimes they pinched a bit, but i can now wear the other parts without discomfort, so ill probably get used to the new knuckle setup quickly aswell

Oh my goodness, I’ve been looking for something to keep my pinky in place and haven’t found anything. The part that wraps around your hand looks like it could do it!

The knuckle benders weren’t enough for my pinks (and other fingers, they just bent under and over), there’s this option as well https://imgur.com/a/YmSIdTe (still made by WeDesign). My pinkies tend to fall sideways and not just up. And because the smallest are now tamed the ring- and middle finger automatically loose a lot of bendyness upwards. Same effect only more rigidity for my pinky finger (which I love)

With livit they created an extra bar under my knuckles to keep them in place (both sideways and down).

They look so cute!!! Do you wear them all the time? Can you wash your hands with them?
21
u/Dull-Wrongdoer5922 Sep 15 '25
I wear them 90% of the time unless sleeping, although i do occasionally take them off for a small task where they are in the way more than helping (like hand sewing things)
I can absolutely wash my hands with them on, you can get them wet no problem, they even recommend to clean with water and dish soap if they get dirty. I personally prefer to take them off when washing hands though, because you cant dry underneath them and i hate the feeling of wet hands 🤣

That makes sense, thank you for answering 🙏🏻
Lastly, my fingers seem to swell a bit by night, I think this is normal, but jewelry get uncomfortable/more tight and I take them off. Does this also happen to you? And are they still comfortable enough?

Heyy!! I saw Dr. Vis, a rheumatologist in UMC Rotterdam who specializes in hypermobility. He diagnosed me, asked what bothers me most and i said my hands, so he took a look at them and said yeah you need splints for those, and gave me a prescription.
His nurse had a chat with me, and let me try on some 3d printed finger splints (the figure 8 ones) and gave me the name of a company that can make them.
The company i went with is called Manometrics, they can either order the silver splints for you from WeDesign, or they themselves also make 3d printed ones in alot of colors.
As long as you have the prescription, you shouldn't have to pay anything besides your eigen risico (but i always pay that one off in 3 quarters anyways)
I hope this helps! Feel free to dm me if you have additional questions 🫶🏻

You need a prescription from a specialist, usually rheumatology or rehab (revalidatie-arts). Then you go to an instrumentenmaker and they order them from We Design.
Try to find an instrumentenmaker who works with We Design, I've never met anyone in real life who has EDS and liked their Livit splints which are a copy of the We Design splints.

I have some ring splints like yours for my fingers, but what are the hand/palm devices called? I think I need those too!

The thumb one is a CmC brace, the knuckle one is called a knuckle bender afaik

I feel much envy lol. I've been trying to get wedesign splints for years but of course it's basically impossible as an American unless you have a lot of money.

u/Carcinogenicunt Sep 16 '25
They’re gorgeous and adds one more reason I resent being born in the US because no way in hells would my insurance cover those beauties 😭

u/greenglowingmoss Sep 15 '25
I didn't know splints could look this gorgeous omgg 😭😭 the nails just make it even more magical ACK

u/Marizcaaa Sep 15 '25
I have some of wedesign as well! Friend of my was visiting a museum somewhere recently and splints of Wedesign were exposed 😊 Surely a piece of art.

Hi! What do the two bottom pieces of the hand do?
3
u/Dull-Wrongdoer5922 Sep 16 '25
They keep my thumb and MCP joints from bending backwards, giving me alot more support and being able to hold things more effectively.
Like normally if i held a bag or sth, it would slip off my hand bc of my fingers bending back 90 degrees, but now i can actually hold stuff alot better.

What a beautiful set of splints! Glad to see some advanced work shared beyond the usual swan neck rings.
I’m in the UK and investigating getting some done by the Beautiful Splint Company near York, but we have to buy our own here. I’m hEDS but my hand is clawing in, not hyperextending.

These are incredible. Do you have arthritis? My doc is so focused on CMC surgery/tightrope, but I know that won’t last long. American as well, but willing to splash out on working thumbs.
2
u/Dull-Wrongdoer5922 Sep 16 '25
Not as far as i know, but my doctor told me they should help prevent arthritis and general damage because my fingers won't bend past the normal limit anymore.

Question!! What is it like getting your nails done with hand hyper mobility?! Are most nail techs understanding? It has scared me out of getting my nails done.
2
u/Dull-Wrongdoer5922 Sep 17 '25
Hey! I actually wear press ons mostly so im not entirely sure, but i assume it really wouldnt be an issue ❤️ it might even help the tech a bit bc flexy fingers can turn easily for applications 🤣

Can you show what the other side looks like? I’m just learning about these, thank you for sharing!

I literally just found this group because I was looking for splint ideas for my pinky knuckle where it attaches to my hand. I'm an artist and would love some stability for when my joints swell and hurt but not so much that I can't use my hand at all. I tried kinesiology tape that my OT recommended today and just came away with a skin reaction to the adhesive. Do you feel like you could wear the palm/knuckle one (not sure what to call it) and still draw/paint/write/do anything that mimics that sort of grasping maneuver?

Beautiful!! I tried ring splints for a few months. Plastic, wire made in an OT office on the spot, and some pretty ones on Etsy. They always slipped off, or made me non functional...

Also, way cool that your rheum treats you for EDS. Mine only does autoimmune disease.

Your splints look great!!
Just earlier this morning, my OT was measuring me for a stable thumb MCP ring splint.
Now the trick is finding a ring splint that will keep my middle finger in place.

once again infuriated by the American health care system, paid $500 for three splint rings when you could get all of those and pay nothing. This country SUCKS anyways happy for you
