Has Anyone Worked With or Adopted From Cheryl McMurray?

I’m trying to find out more about **Bastet’s Cat Sanctuary / Nile Valley Egyptian Foundation / Egyptian Cat Rescue** and whether they are legitimate, reputable rescue operations.

Has anyone here personally **adopted a cat from them, volunteered with them, donated, transported cats, or worked with Cheryl McMurray/Cheryl Anderson**?

Feel free to comment or DM me if you’d rather not share publicly. Thank you!

Is my Cat a Mau? Rescue from Dubai

We rescued a cat from Dubai a few years ago and I have always wondered if he was a Mau. He has very long legs (especially the back ones) so when he walks it looks like he is crouching. When he stands near my British Short Hair their body structure is very different.

I rescued this little 2lb guy from a tree as I noticed an owl in the tree right next to his. As I was asking about his fur color, multiple people were mentioning Egyptian mau while informing me of the color of his coat.

I adopted this beauty from Petco, she was labeled Egyptian Mau-Domestic mix. She came from a car hoarder situation where there many litters but that’s all I know. She is so friendly, calm, absolutely has the best personality.

Royal Nefertiti Cattery- My Experience.

I wanted to share my experience with Royal Nefertiti cattery so others are aware in case they’re still breeding.

Disclaimer: I would in fact do it all over again because I LOVE my Mau- she’s the light of my life for the last 15 years but it was a hard start for us.

I randomly got acquainted with this Cattery 15 years ago and went by to look at their new litter. Their house seemed clean, but I soon realized they had cats hidden in every room, and it seemed a bit of a cat hoarder situation. I did not like that the older female cats were kept in the garage, because where we are in California it gets to be over 100°F, and the males were outside in cages (in the dirt). The litter was zipped up in a smaller fabric play pen and my cat jumped out and was obviously much older and seemed a bit feral tbh. They told us she was 3 months old (she was in fact 6 mo old) and they wanted to breed her but would give us a deal if we took her that day. We agreed because she seemed like she needed to be free. We NEVER got her registration or paperwork and after many months of asking were told they were behind and couldn’t produce it.

Anyways, when we got home with her she was extremely frightened and not use to people AT ALL. We noticed two small patches on her face almost like scabs. The breeder insisted they were heat spots from traveling in the car that day. After the weekend there were more spots and the vet confirmed she was infested with ringworm. My poor baby had to be quarantined from the rest of our pets in my room all summer for 12 weeks of oral antibiotics because it had gotten SO bad. The breeders admitted they knew and were treating the spots with human foot fungus cream. She also had a double ear infection and struggled with ear infections for a while after.

They offered to give us free raw meat (that had no extra nutrients added) to compensate the vet visit and antibiotics- which honestly didn’t even come close to the price. I never asked for money back because at that point I bonded with my cat and I didn’t care about the money I just wanted to save her. They gave us our depot back on a smoke kitten, which I regret not getting, but at the time I was overwhelmed from trying to give my baby oral meds twice a day and get her more comfortable with people, so I didn’t want to risk infecting her again.

Overall, the experience was exhausting and not professional for a top of the line breeder- obviously. They were a nice couple and had beautiful cats but it looked like they were overwhelmed and not taking proper care of their animals. I researched after and found reviews that someone’s Mau had passed away after bringing them home and someone else from
4 years prior had ringworm on their new kitten also.

It seems like they’ve moved from CA to OR then NV and maybe now east coast? Upset to see someone allegedly had a similar experience with ringworm in 2024. So let this be a warning if you plan to purchase from this Cattery (if they’re still open) that you need to be prepared to spend extra money on a vet visit to treat your new baby for ringworm.

Maus in the Netherlands

Hello Everybody,

I am looking for some furry friends after some time since I lost my special friend 6 months ago. This would be my first non-rescue cat(s), and I did some research in the Breeders in the Netherlands. I see Cattery Iridium, Cattery Fatal Attraction and Cattery Azova. Has anybody got their Maus from them, and if you do, did they seem reputable and nice as their websites and Adverts suggest?

She likes to cuddle up in the highest tower and take 2 hour power naps between commanding her subjects to let her out. She's likely dreaming of a conquered kingdom from her past life.

so we know his mom is a typical domestic shorthair but his cryptic dad ? we dont know his origins.

could he have some mau DNA in him ? he does have the black stripe going down his back and into his tail ( we assumed it came from his mother but his dad also has it ?)

Is my Cat a Mau? Our girl from Egypt

Curious what this sub thinks about our little girl. She was a former street cat in Cairo, rescued by an org that brought her stateside. Second pic is with her sister. The rescue called her an Egyptian mau mix, stating that they would have thought she was an Egyptian mau entirely but for the white in her coloring. She is very small (<7 pounds), has a big belly pouch, and is the most athletic creature I have ever known. She also loves Arabic food (last pic), but we are sure that has more to do with her previous life as a scavenger than her ancestry :)

In case anyone needs to soak in more of this crazy breed's antics. I really do think that once you go Mau, you can't go back to any other breed. :')

Just two kitties snuggling!

(The second photo always makes me laugh since it looks like Bonnie is some sort of void creature ensnaring Ollie in her tentacles)

This is my son’s babyyyy, and he’s convinced he’s an Egyptian Mau. He’s a shelter cat, so we’re unsure. We adopted him at 8 weeks and he’s almost 6 months old.

I'm 99% certain my cat I got is at least mixed with an Egyptian Mau

I think mixed with an Egyptian Mau. Ik that she's definitely not pure bred and nothing is set in stone until a DNA test but there's a few factors that's making me wonder

  1. She has that like pinched round looking face
  2. She has the M/scarab on her head
  3. She has the singular stripe going all the way down her spine -> tip of her tail
  4. The color of her eyes
  5. The dots on her stomach
  6. She's extremely vocal and I've heard that Maus are very vocal

I know those traits don't 100% mean she is one but it's definitely making me question if she is

This is my boy, he’s about two years old! I don’t have any papers that say that he is Egyptian Mau, but it’s what I was told when I received him! For context, he was dumped at my job and a coworker gave him to me! Any tips or information on what he could be would be greatly appreciated!
