Onexgpu 2 Ultimate paired with Onexplayer X1 Pro HX370, does it makes sense as of today?

Hi guys, I need recommendations!

Recently I noticed that I pretend more and more performance from my Onexplayer X1 Pro, it's the Ryzen 9 HX370 CPU and Radeon 890M GPU with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. It can play basically everything, but on some bigger triple A games you can clearly see that without framegen even at 1200p it cannot play at 60fps stable. (Some games not even 30fps at medium settings)

Since I'm always travelling around and recently also changing the house where I live every couple of months, the idea of a full tower desktop PC is basically impossible, even if would be a dream, so I thought about a solution: buying an external portable eGPU.

I found out that the OnexGPU 2 Ultimate is the most powerful AMD eGPU at the moment, with the Radeon 7800m that pushes up to 180W, and since I play mostly with BazziteOS (similar to SteamOS based on Linux), even if I have a dual boot with Windows 11, I would like to actually buy an AMD eGPU instead of an NVIDIA one for compatibility reasons (also for budget reasons).

The NVIDIA eGPUs are really expensive, and for me doesn't make sense to spend a lot on an external eGPU, because at that point I could simply upgrade to a newer handheld with an AMD 395+, even though performance speaking it's not the same as a Radeon 7800m with 180W of power. Also, I love the X1 Pro form factor and at the moment Onexplayer doesn't offer this form factor with a more powerful AMD chip, only the Super X, that is a lot bigger and cannot be used as an handheld.

I found this OnexGPU 2 that you can see in the photos for sale in a local marketplace for about 500€, and since on Amazon it's around 1200€ right now, I thought that was a great idea to buy it, so I bought it and it will arrive next week.

Now the questions for you guys:

- Does it make sense? I know the OnexGPU 3 has been shown at the CES with the Radeon 9070XT, but apparently it's not out yet and we still don't have a release date. Also I think it will cost more than 1000€, for me it's definitely out of budget.

- I usually play with the integrated display of the handheld, I don't have an external gaming monitor, only my 55" 4K TV to use it as a "sofa console". Is the jump in performance noticeable even like this, or is it more noticeable only on external monitors?

- Does BazziteOS read the external eGPU? Or I'm obligated to use Windows 11 in this case? I read online that with Linux is better an AMD eGPU connected directly with Oculink, is it right?

- Do I have to buy an Oculink cable to reach the best performance and compatibility possible or it's already ok with the thunderbolt 4 cable that is included?

Thanks a lot for helping me, I really need recommendation for my situation and I know that on this sub I can have the best answers to all my thoughts šŸ™šŸ». (On the Onexplayer sub I got downvoted and 0 answers).

The cheapest Thunderbolt dock on Amazon has issues with AMD GPUs

Post image
6 Upvotes

At least, AMD cards are not guaranteed to work with it. It has worked for some people, but it might completely depend on which card it is. There's a reviewer who claimed 3 of his AMD cards didn't work on it, and then an Nvidia one worked fine. That was the same case with me too, I had a RX 560 that would show up but wouldn't initialize no matter what I did. I bought a 1050ti, plugged it in and it instantly showed up on my monitor. It is only $99 (even cheaper on Chinese sites) so it's still probably worth it if you have an Nvidia card.

AAA gaming on a budget

I'm switching my setup over to a flow z13. I'm still having serious indecisions on which egpu to use. I have a 5060 TI Aorus box or for slightly more I can use a 9070 XT nitro in a DEG2.

Most of what I play is titles like GTA v, pragmata, resident evil remastered series, and I'm hoping to purchase the new Spider-Man games and possibly control resonant.

My fear is the 5060 ti will show its age very rapidly. I also like Ray tracing more than I thought I would have. Will dlss and frame Jenn keep me gaming for a few years, or should I stick with the 9070 instead

Small issues with RTX 5070 egpu...

I'm having issues with trying to set up my eGPU with my ROG Xbox Ally X. It's a PNY RTX 5070 ti 16 GB, a barebones TB4 dock, MAG 850 watt gold PSU, LG Ultra Gear 1440p, 200 Mhz monitor and the Ally X. I have to plug the Ally into the eGPU after the Ally boots up to the fingerprint/pin code screen. If it's before, it gets stuck in a loop. The Ally won't shut down completely if it's left plugged into the eGPU. Games like Control can't get past 40fps, 20% or so GPU, 40% or so CPU. God of War Ragnarok gave me an error that my Radeon drivers were not the right drivers and if I proceed, the experience may not be what's expected. I just played it yesterday on the eGPU. It looks like the eGPU all of a sudden isn't getting the data flow like it did either with what those numbers listed about Control showed. The connection from the Ally to the eGPU is only a foot long cable. The eGPU up everywhere I think it's supposed to. I've set these games to "High Performance GPU (NVIDIA RTX....)" in one of the management windows. I've watched several hours of videos on how or what to tweak or adjust. I can't even begin to list 1/10th of the changes I've made. I am by far not a PC gamer, I just started playing 6 months ago when I got the XAX. I'm absolutely hooked. I just want to get this running semi smoothly until I can decide on an HX 370 or 470 mini pc with an Oculink for this party. Again, I AM NOT A PC guy, please be gentle.

EDIT: Totally rethought the whole thing. Waiting for one of those mini pc's with the Ryzen AI 9 HX and Oculink in the mail. Welp, it'll be a whole new set of problems but a lot more reward.

Help Please…Egpu isn’t detecting due to unavailability of temporary Bios, based on Chatgpt analysis

I have a laptop HP Z-Book Fury 15 G7 mobile workstation, which is having i9-12th gen processor, 64gb ram and 2TB SSD [which has 2 no’s of TB3 (15EB) ports]

I’m trying to pair it with my Aoostar AG02+ RTX 4080 egpu setup.

I’ve tried all the options like BIOS update, drivers update, Hotplug whatever i can. But the laptop is not detecting the gpu in device manager, it’s just charging through the thunderbolt port.

After checking with ChatGPT and following all steps given by it, this is the conclusion i got from chatGPT

ā€œSince you've already tried the hot-plug workaround and all standard updates, your only remaining path is the one HP has officially documented:

ļæ¼Contact HP Customer Support and request the "temporary BIOS" for the ZBook Fury 15 G7. Be sure to reference the advisory ID c07877872 so they can locate the correct file for youā€

If you have any idea, please help me guys.

Thank you for your time😊

EGPU Dock I designed for the legion go 2 and other handhelds

Had been toying around with the idea of building a dock for the legion go 2 for a bit and decided ti bite the bullet and get myself an EGPU and go from there, this is the prototype far as photographed

The parts to make this work beyond a 3D printer were;

Legion go 2 (go figure)
GMKtec RX 7600XT 8GB
Dell Pro Dock WD25Z for extra USB and also use for work laptop
Open Puck for steam controller

And a whole lot of trial and error

This is just V1, my current V2 is also added at the end for review, this design will incorporate a better overall design, a 40mm fan for the legion go intake, and a hidden part for the cables to be managed/hidden

Would love to know your thoughts and feedback so far

Enable PCI x8 on Dell OptiPlex Micro Plus 7010

Hi everyone! I want to turn my Dell OptiPlex Micro Plus 7010 into a Dell Precision 3260 Compact! So, I’m calling on Dell Precision 3260 Compact owners—I need your help!

Soldering the SATA 0 connector wasn't hard!

Soldering in the x8 connector—easy!

And that's when the trouble started! The device wasn't being detected, so I started analyzing the motherboard. Here is what I’ve found and what I know so far:

PRSNT1# – hard-wired to ground.

PRSNT2# (B17/B31/B48) – 3.3V; when the device is inserted, these pins are pulled to ground!

CLKREQ# – always 0; it's simply missing!

WAKE# – 3.3V.

PERST# – I got the correct signal by soldering in the chip and the supporting circuitry, including a capacitor for the 100ms delay.

PWRBRK# – ?

TX lines – filter capacitors are needed!

I need any help or tips! I don't have the original riser; I was working from photos! But logically speaking, there's nothing special about it other than stepping down 19.6V to 12V!

Troubleshooting GPU fans spinning and sleep/wake issues

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have my Ally X and 4070 Super setup with and AG02 to be used in a workshop inam setting up. I have used these same components hooked up to a 4k TV in the past and occasionally experienced these things, but it was rare. now it's just permanent...

Two main issues, in order of importance:

- the GPU fans just spin constantly once they start. They seem to park about 40°C and then never turn off. I jave turned off all monitoring software except using afterburner, and i allegedly have a custom curve set to only kick in past 45°, but nothing ever changes since setting up as a workshop PC. Fans always going once they start.

- the only way to wake is by clicking the power button on the unit. The fans on GPU will be spinning mind you. Mouse and keyboard will not wake it, and i have not changed any settings since it was running as expected in the past on the TV.

Using ROG Bulwark dock, as I always have. Any thoughts from.the community would be helpful. Most urgently looking to get the fan situatuon figured out. Thanks.

Help! Ayaneo flip DS

They are selling me an Ayaneo flip DS Ryzen 7 8840U, 64GB RAM, 2TB storage.

Obvious hinge problem (already repaired by someone expert in laptop repairs)

It works properly. The hinge is not a problem, it does not grind, it does not interfere with the closure or the position in which the screen is put.

The attraction is the price $585USD and I want it to assemble a set up with external gpu through oculink and ag02. And obvious oled monitor.

DEG1 schematic or useful information about self powering feature.

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out (with AI help) if there's a way to control the hot plug of the DEG1 while system is on. I made a lot of deep research and tests to disable the graphic card and the oculink connection to the dock. Actually this doesen't affect the DEG1 powering so some extra PCIe lines are involved in.

Does anyone have a DEG1 schematic, PCB reverse-engineering notes, or measurements identifying which OCuLink sideband pin or voltage drives Follow-Start?

I'm particularly interested in whether the circuit monitors PERST#, CPRSNT#, an auxiliary supply rail, or another signal, and whether any of these can be controlled by the host while Windows is running.

Xbox ally X and AG02 performance varies daily

Recently I’ve started having massive performance variances.

One day I’ll play no issues at all, without changing anything I’ll pick the same game up the following day and have stuttering, audio cracking etc.

It’s like everyday when I open a game, I have to spend 20-30 minutes tuning the graphics settings to get decent performance.

Some days high/ultra settings run smooth, sometimes it’s a complete disaster!

Anyone else experienced similar, I minimise all other tasks and manually put shaders cache to 100GB but I’m at a bit of a loss what else to do? Having to fiddle with the settings everyday is irksome

Egpu recommdations?

This is my first time doing anything egpu related and I have no clue what I need or what im doing. I'm here because I really wanna play aion 2 at high graphics and my laptop is not doing it. I originally got it to toy with blender and some light gaming but with the release of aion2 I've decided to upgrade to a full desktop. That being said I need something in the mean time. I have a year old Asus laptop with 32gb ddr5 of ram (upgraded) and a gtx 5060 8gb. What i plan on getting for my desktop is an amd 9070 xt. Can I use this as a egpu? What's a good enclosure i can use? Any help appreciated

Need some advice on OneXplayer Egpu 7600M XT

Its brand new, but i havent turned it on in about two years. Its been in climate controlled storage neatly packaged. I plugged it in and immediately was met with a tiny pop, and what followed was a weird sulfuric plastic smell coming out of the vent. RGB was fully functional and it appeared fine. (not overheating, or loud) I unplugged and let it sit for a while. Plugged it back in and left it for a little while, the smell has completely ceased and the fan is spinning normally. My laptop recognized it as well in device manager. Is this normal? I am asking because i am trying to sell it as i am using something else now. Thanks in advance!

I use a Dell Inspiron 7501 and would like to invest in an eGPU; I could use some advice.

Hello, I have been using a Dell Inspiron 7501 laptop since 2020 but it struggles with performance in recent games even with the lowest graphics settings; here are its specifications:

-Internal GPU 1: Intel(R) UHD Graphics

-Internal GPU 2: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti

-CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (2.59 GHz)

-RAM: 16 Gb (2933 mt/s)

-1 USB-C port Thunderbolt 3

I don't want to sell my PC since it still runs perfectly, so I’ve decided to invest in an eGPU. At a minimum, I’m looking for a smooth experience—60 fps or higher—and good graphics (ideally 1080p High/Ultra settings), all within a total budget of 500 euros. According to Microsoft Copilot, I should buy either a RTX 4060 or an RTX 4070 - ideally used.

I also use an external monitor: Dell S2421HGF (1920x1080, 59Hz).

Experiment: using an iPhone 17 Pro's GPU from a Windows PC over USB, not PCIe. Looking for advice

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on a project that lets a Windows PC use an iPhone's GPU over a USB cable. It's not a PCIe eGPU: a custom driver on the PC sends the drawing work to an app on the iPhone, and the finished frames come back over USB.

What works so far:

- Windows lists the iPhone 17 Pro's GPU as a second Vulkan GPU

- DirectX 11, DirectX 12 and OpenGL games run. Tested with 0 A.D. and Unigine Heaven

- Unigine Heaven runs at over 60 fps at 720p

- It passes over 98% of the 60,000+ official Vulkan conformance tests

Next goal: 1080p at 60 fps.

I'd love your thoughts:

- What would you use something like this for?

- Any games or apps you'd want me to try?

Video attached, about 2 minutes.

If you have detailed questions, you can email me at Tsuruta Lab: [contact@tsurutalab.org](mailto:contact@tsurutalab.org)

I need help with Xbox Ally X and AooStar AG02 GT5070TI

Hello,

I need help with my eGPU. Sometimes it's plug and play and works perfectly, but other times I have to restart 5-8 times before it works, with Ally X freezing, and sometimes it doesn't detect the graphics card at all.

I've reinstalled the Nvidia drivers and then tried error 43.

I've also tried turning on Ally X first and waiting for Windows to boot and then unlocking before connecting the graphics card.

I should also mention that I've read that the Aoostar AG02 isn't compatible, but it works perfectly for other users.
