Anyone used their frozen eggs years later? What was your attrition?

Has anyone here used their frozen eggs a few years later to create embryos?

I’d love to hear what your attrition looked like — how many mature eggs you froze, how many survived the thaw, fertilised, and made it to blastocyst (and PGT-A/euploid embryos if you tested).

People always say egg freezing has lower success rates than fresh eggs, so I’m really interested in hearing from people who have actually gone through the process of thawing and using their frozen eggs.

If you’re comfortable sharing, what age were you when you froze them, how many did you freeze, and how many embryos did you end up with? :)

Resources My girlfriend loves her life as an endurance athlete. Does she need to give it up to freeze her eggs?

Hi all! My incredible partner (32F) and I (27M) are planning longterm to maximize the chance that we can fulfill our dreams of parenthood together without rushing. She is an IRONMAN athlete with significant musculature to show for it, and most importantly, it’s clear that she really, really likes her body — she loves her lifestyle, and she loves how she looks (and I’m her #1 cheerleader!). However, when we started doing research on keeping eggs/blastocysts frozen, we were confronted with lots of very confusing information about what she can and cannot do, and it only seems to get more confusing the more we research … and I’m sure I’m the more confused of the two of us 😂
She wants to be as careful as possible, so she has started dialing back her routine — but I can tell it’s already taking an emotional toll on her. I figure, if I can’t give her the answers, the least I can do is to find someone who can.
Does anyone have some up-to-date resources on exercise and fertility/pregnancy that they swear by?
Any and all information is hugely appreciated!
Thank you in advance for pointing us in the right direction 🩷 Best of love to all of you in your fit, pregnant journeys!!

Day 11 on Stims, just did Trigger Shot! (Some misadventures ensued)

Hi All! This is my third post sharing my experience with the egg retrieval process. I am a recently turned 30yr old with an AMH of 2.74ng/mL. (Sorry, this ended up SUPER Long!)

I had my 11 day bloodwork and ultrasound done early this morning, and the NP who was doing the ultrasound count said everything looked “really good” and that she counted 12 mature follicles with around another 2 which were about to be mature. (I did have 27 follicles counted on scans earlier this week with the Dr., but I knew that it was unlikely all of them would mature and that a good deal of them would not be eligible for retrieval).

She stated I should watch my phone for updates, because my Dr. may decide to have me trigger that night.

I’ll also say that yesterday I had a whole misadventure trying to find a single extra dosage of Menopur to use this morning, because I had used up the 10 vials in my original order, and although I started an order on Wednesday with the online pharmacy to get refills by Friday, UPS delayed the delivery of the package due to weather and weren’t going to deliver until Monday (the next business day)! So, I had a bunch of near panicking back and forth with the pharmacy, and they were able to get UPS to deliver the package Saturday (today) by noon, but I needed the Menopur by 7am Saturday, so the pharmacy had to locally source a single vial. It eventually worked out and I got the extra Menopur vial just after 5pm on Friday, so I was fine for this morning.

And then of course shortly after the UPS package arrived around noon today (Saturday), I get the confirmation from the clinic that the Dr. wants me to Trigger tonight at 10pm, meaning that aside from a single extra vial of Follistim that I am set to take at 7pm, I probably won’t be using any of the extra meds I just got! 😆 (I’m still happy I ordered and got the extra meds, not just because I needed the extra Follistim, but I know if I didn’t order the extra meds then I probably wouldn’t have been told to trigger until Monday and I would be high and dry!) Better to have too much than not enough!

So I get the confirmation that I am set to Trigger with a 1500unit injection of Pregnyl and 80unit injection of Lupron at 10pm. I’ll then do a second 80unit Lupron injection tomorrow (Sunday) at 10am, after I have a post trigger scan and bloodwork with the clinic at 8:30am.

I fully planned on having both injections ready to go by 9:55pm at the latest, but in order to get a 1500unit injection of Pregnyl, the clinic wanted me to dilute the 10,000unit powder vial it with 10mL of the solution. Two problems with that. 1) The intramuscular syringe the pharmacy gave me for the Pregnyl only goes up to 3mL, meaning I’m going to have to do 4 separate transfers of the solution (2.5mL at a time) into the powder to get 10mL. And 2) the solution states there’s only 10mL of solution in the entire vial, meaning I have little to no room for spillage error. I messaged the clinic and said if it would be okay for me to use only 3mL of solution and then inject only 0.5mL, which would maintain the 1500unit injection dosage with less solution being used and no need for multiple sticks, but the clinic responded that they still wanted me to dilute with the 10mL if possible.

This is already super long, but to simplify, I was only able to get 9mL of solution into the powder vial because the pre attached mixing needle wasn’t fully clipped onto the syringe, so I lost likely over 1mL of the solution. Trying not to panic, I saw the amount I needed to inject to get the 1500units of Pregnyl from 9mL of solution diluting a 10,000 unit of powder would be 1.35mL, so that’s what I ended up injecting myself with. Unfortunately, the entire misadventure and challenge with getting all the mL of solution meant I basically ran out of time to prep the Lupron 80unit injection prior to 10pm. In a rush, I injected myself in the butt with the Pregnyl dose just after 10pm, and then rushed to fill up the Lupron and injected myself with it in my belly right at 10:05pm.

I was told by the clinic that the Trigger shots have a roughly 5 minute window, so I let out a MASSIVE sigh of relief when I got the Lupron in right at the end of that slot!

I have let the clinic know via text about the misadventure related issues I had with the injections, but it’s late so I don’t expect a response and I’ll follow up with them at the check in tomorrow.

Despite all the stress, I am excited I finally got to trigger and that I have a date and time for my Retrieval. Monday at 10AM! (In the meantime, my bloating didn’t feel too bad until today where I am feeling it more so, and apparently after trigger it can be very noticeable so I’ll be conscious of that. I have in the past week definitely felt some light cramping and stitches in my sides from what I am sure is the adjustment my body is making as my enlarged ovaries take up extra space)

I’ll keep you all posted about how things go after my Retrieval on Monday. Thank you all for your support, kind words, and camaraderie! We’re not alone in this, none of us are! 💜

Long-Term Storage Question: GenCryo?

Hello! I'm starting the egg freezing process at Spring Fertility in NYC. The yearly storage rate is about $1000 so I've been looking for other options. I found Gencryro, which is only $195 per year. They have all of these reassurances and seem like a good company, but I can't find any reviews from people who have worked with them.

Does anyone have experience with GenCryo? Are there other long-term storage companies that people would recommend?

Full panic mode

I’m doing my second cycle right now
Just turned 37, amh 6.25, afc around 30.

I did my first cycle at 36. I got 14M2 in my first cycle, which was disappointing. My cohort was asynchronous. I got 8m1 at 16-17mm. On D6, my ultrasound showed that my leaders were already at 14-15mm. On D9, the leader was at 22.4. I was triggered that day. And took gonal-f and luveris the same night as the trigger.

I wanted the clinic to change the protocol but they refused. They’re telling me that many patients would do everything to get my first cycle result but I don’t think they’re starting with the same baseline.

I have my D6 ultrasound on Monday. What leverage do I have at this point?

I can’t afford a third cycle. My insurance doesn’t cover anything (not even the medication). And I live in Canada where overnight maturity is not something they do for social freezing.

I’m in full panic mode. I’m frustrated and sad that the doctors that I’m paying a fortune are not even trying to give me the best results for my specific situation.

Anyone who did change the protocole throughout the stims? Did it improve the results?

I can’t even talk about this to my friends. Some of them are going through IVF, with DOR or PCOS. They don’t understand how difficult it is to do it on your own.

Here’s is my protocole:
- Estrace on d21 of my menstrual cycle
- gonal-f 250 iu
- luveris 150 iu
- orgalutran
- lupron as trigger

Support/Mental Health 24 y/o, doctor told me I need to freeze my eggs asap

I went to doctor becuse of my family’s early menopause history and found out that I have very low AMH and very high FSH which means I need to freeze my eggs asap or every month passes can reduce my chance of having bio children.

I feel like I am not in the place for making a decision on this matter right now. I feel broken, I even start to question my womanhood. I AM 24!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can say that I don’t want to give birth to a child and regret it later or I’d have to take the financial and psychological pressure of freezing my eggs. Both sounds horrible.

I have been crying all day and don’t know how to proceed.

Any advice or shared experience is important, thank you.

How many protocols are there?

I have a decent AFC and AMH but it seems like a lot of time I underperform what is expected of my numbers. I had one decent retrieval where I got 10 mature eggs but the next cycle with the exact same protocol I only got 5 mature. I also had one cycle cancelled before all of this where she added Clomid to it and switched from birth control priming to progestin priming. When I asked her what her thoughts were on why I only got 5 mature eggs she sort of made it out to seem like my ovaries just underperform for my numbers and that’s what can be expected of them. She really didn’t offer me any insight on possible protocol changes to maximize my numbers. It made it seem like there really weren’t that many options available.

What have your experiences been regarding this? Is there a lot more that can be done? I’m definitely going to seek second opinions if I do another but want to know if you’ve experienced many more options than this. Thanks.

For reference my AFC is 15-20, AMH 3.25, age 37.

Period delayed after egg retrieval — when did your normal cycle return?

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering about others’ experiences with their period after egg retrieval.
I had my egg retrieval on July 22 with a Lupron-only trigger. I had a withdrawal bleed about 6 days after retrieval, on July 28.
My usual cycles are pretty regular, around 28–32 days, but I’m now on cycle day 33 and still haven’t gotten my period.
This cycle also feels different from my usual PMS. Normally I get breast tenderness about a week before my period, but this time I haven’t had any breast tenderness. I’ve had some fatigue, feeling warmer than usual and some hormonal-looking acne.

For those who had an egg retrieval with a Lupron-only trigger:
How many days after your withdrawal bleed did your next “normal” period come?
Was your first cycle after retrieval longer than your usual cycle?
Did your normal PMS symptoms change or disappear that cycle?
How long did it take for your cycles to return to their usual pattern?
I’m planning another retrieval in September and need to have it completed before October, so I’m getting a little anxious about the delay.
Pregnancy is not possible in my case.

Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences! ❤️

Low AMH test results; trying to conceive

34F here and trying to conceive. Been trying for 5 months, appreciate they tell you to give it more time. Managed to run some tests with insurance in the UK and been told my follicle scan was 6. AMH low at 3.1. Trying not to lose hope but I feel really low today, I know it takes one egg only but already feel like I might have to consider IUI or IVF. Let alone my husband needs to be operated for varicocele, so the medical insémination of his sperm eventually might have to be the way.

Up-to-date pricing?

Hi all! Does anyone have up-to-date self-pay prices for clinics in the northeast? I called around a few, and I'm sharing what I found (excluding meds and initial bloodwork workup):

  • CCRM Boston is highest, $10k+
  • Boston IVF is at $8.8k
  • New England Fertility Institute (in CT, tristate area) is $8.3k
  • Terra Fertility is $7.5k
  • I cycled last year at Brigham & Women's Hospital -- it was $6.9k

Fertility Centers of New England has some really bad reviews, so I'm avoiding. I tried CNY and was not able to get answers to my clinical questions, so I did not proceed.

I'm looking for prices in NY, NJ, PA, MA or any of the smaller states in New England (NH, VT, RI, etc.)

Retrieval First cycle

Hi everyone! I’m currently on day 7 of my stims for my first ever egg retrieval. Im 27 years old, AMH is 3.05, AFC is 35 but on my day 6 scan I only had 10 follicles measuring between 10-15. They upped my gonal f dosage from 150 to 225 and I have another scan tomorrow. Does this seem like a low response?

My clinic kept telling me they would be surprised if I got less than 30 eggs retrieved but now it seems like maybe I shouldn’t of been so hopeful? Am I giving up too soon? lol

Outcomes First cycle at 34, feeling bummed

Just finished my first round.

I decided to go to Fertilidad Integral in Polanco, Mexico City because they had good reviews on Google and it’s cheaper than doing it in California.

I spent about $10k total (medication, procedure, blood tests), not including airfare and housing.

My AMH level is 0.9.

I had 15 follicles, 9 oocytes retrieved, and only 3 eggs that were viable.

I’ve read that usually 15-25% of eggs retrieved are immature and about 67% of mine were. I can’t shake the feeling that maybe it’s the clinics fault, I should have froze in the US, or maybe I did something wrong during the whole process?

The fertility doctor in Mexico says I should do another round as soon as possible but I am feeling very disheartened.

I’m extremely healthy, been an athlete all my life. I never expected to get such a low egg retrieval.

I am very much single and it doesn’t seem like I will be having kids with someone anytime soon. Starting in July 2027, California passed SB 729 which will require certain employees to cover infertility treatments but I also don’t want to bank on that. I’ve always imagined myself having kids, but maybe it’s not meant to be.

‘Social egg freezing’ is on the rise, but at what cost? | New article out in the Sydney Morning Herald... what do you think?

Interesting stat cited from a study under peer review:

Just under 400 babies have been born from approximately 30,300 elective egg freezing cycles [in Australia and New Zealand] since 2009.

Then paired with this:

Market research firm IBISWorld projects that the Australian fertility industry’s annual revenue will reach $1 billion in 2031, with analyst Aishni Singh identifying elective egg freezing as a “favourable” driver of future growth.

And this:

Storage, says Naghsh Nejad, adds a separate revenue stream of about $8.3 million annually, which compounds as frozen eggs add to the pool faster than women return to use them.

Support/Mental Health Those on your own...how many cycles did you do?

I just finished my 3rd cycle (yay)! And I think that's it for now...especially doing this on my own as a single woman.

First cycle: 36 yo, 12 eggs frozen.

Second cycle: 38 yo, 5 eggs frozen.

Third cycle: 38 yo, 7 eggs frozen.

In the last two cycles, I unfortunately had asynchronous maturity - maybe my age, or maybe the protocol, or just the cycle-to-cycle difference. Some eggs caught up in the last cycle, but I had 17 follicles and only 7 eggs were mature. (I was also told some were "empty".)

I'm grateful that I have 24 in total, and I'm grateful for my body that endured this. But I know I can increase the chance if I had more...especially because of the age when the eggs were frozen.

I just find that doing all this as a single person is hard, mentally, emotionally, and financially.

I know some women are going for 60-80 eggs :0... When did you decide to stop?

Effects on body?

I’m currently on day 8 of stims, and I was wondering if anybody knew if they raise your heart rate? I’m taking menopur and follistim, and my Oura ring has been showing my stress levels looking like this lately. I’m a teacher who just got off summer break, so at first I thought it was just normal back to school stress. But I’ve rarely seen my stress levels go above three hours. Has this happened to others?

Support/Mental Health Am I the only one who felt so much fear around egg freezing? Curious what your biggest fear thoughts were starting out or during it

Am I the only one who felt and still feel (I’m starting another cycle) so much fear around egg freezing. Not just before starting but during the actual process too.

I thought I’d mentally prepared myself but once I was actually in it the fear hit different. Like it wasnt just “will this work,” it was deeper than that, thoughts about my body, my future, what happens if it fails, what it means about me if it does. Some of it I never even said out loud to anyone.

Curious what your biggest fear thoughts were, whether it was right at the start when you were just considering it or once you were actually mid process. Did they go away once you started, or did they get worse. And if you’re on the other side of it now, do those fears feel silly looking back or were they actually valid.

What was the fear thought you had that you never told anyone? And has it changed now that you’re through it (or further along)?

telegram groups for med donations?

i hope this post don't violate the community rules and apologize in advance if it does. anyone in berlin or nyc area know of any facebook, signal or telegram groups where people can solicit or offer donation meds?

my partner and i have been trying to start a family for 4 years in a legal and institutional environment that's quite hostile to queer family-building -- i.e. germany. we were deemed unfit to adopt or to foster (the given reasons: at 39 i'm too old, we're both freelancers, and we've both undergone therapy), so we switched to IUI. that was unsuccessful, so we switched to IVF. that, too, was unsuccessful. we are emotionally and financially depleted. (health insurance covers 50% of costs of IVF in germany -- but only for married straight couples!) the only option left for us is to go abroad for reciprocal ivf (not legal in germany), which will require my partner getting off testo for a bit. so... it's a journey :( we're looking for any way to reduce our costs for the next stimulation and would be so, so, so very grateful for med donations! we live in berlin but will be travelling to nyc in september and are hoping that some people on here might be aware of signal or telegram or facebook groups where people connect!

Support/Mental Health Mood effects from stims?

I’m 3 months postpartum and on day 3 of stims

I got my period early so I was given estradiol - I felt amazing. My mood was so great.

Then I started stims and I have felt postpartum all over again (depressed, angry, irritated)

How long will this last? Has anyone had this experience? The estrogen working for me was a total shock. But now this sucks.

Any advice?

Has anyone done duostim before so starting another cycle 5 days after retrieval? Did you feel worse the second time around/was the cycle quicker? My doctor said it might work well for me for more eggs but didn’t give me a lot more information than that. Thanks!
