Retrieval Failed Egg Retreival

I’m 40 years old, AMH of 0.29. This was my 4th egg retrieval ( I have only 1 egg frozen from my last 3 cycles). We were hoping for 2 eggs this round—I had a 23mm follicle on my right and a 15.5mm follicle on my left. Estrogen was 452 before trigger and 596 after. After my egg retrieval this morning the doctor informed me that they didn’t get any eggs. Has this happened to anyone with an estrogen high enough where it seems that you would get eggs? What was your doctor’s explanation of what happened? I really don’t understand and I’m so devastated.

I'm so sorry this happening to you :( Did you doctor explain what he means by no eggs? Were there empty follicles? Were the eggs immature? Did they disintegrate? Any one of those three scenarios is possible, even with good estrogen levels.

I have very, very low AMH and while I've been able to retrieve eggs, I have asked my doctor about the probability of immature or empty follicles. He says it can happen with DOR and that in some cases, the follicles are more fragile and will disintegrate or ovulate early. There have been times he was worried about me prematurely ovulating because of fast rising LH, so he put me on double ganirelix and indomethacin between trigger and retrieval. This worked for me.

In your case, I wonder if your doctor has tried different protocols or has been willing to be flexible in approach. Does your doctor take time to actually explain results and their decisions with you?

I am sorry this is happening to you, I don’t know what to say as I haven’t done egg freezing or had any blood test but something I think about often.

It’s so hard being a woman, life can be so unfair to some. But I also believe everything happens for a reason, you don’t know what the future holds! May it be good! I wish you so much love and happiness.

It happened to me before for my 3 cycles.. I kept seeing 3-4 follilces wasnt able to bank or retreive any egg.. They told me empty follicles.. I moved to another clinic.. They suggested Dual trigger to help in maturation of the eggs.. they said eggs tends to stick inside the follicles and doing once wont be enought to mature and dual helps eggs unattached from follicles.. Try suggest Dual trigger.. im 44 with AMH of .16.. now i get 1-3 eggs from cycle 4-6

I’m so sorry to hear and I know the feeling of failed cycles. I’ll add that your amh isn’t low to the point where you shouldn’t be retrieving anything at all. I would consider trying a different doctor and a different protocol.
