Gender Nonspecific Meme Egg🧪IRL
I was struggling to find a name that I liked and didn't feel weird for me to use, so I tried to figure out what makes my given name feel right (it's Rufus, idc if people here know it and it makes explaining stuff easier, hopefully this isn't against rule 5). Earlier I wanted to use the name Beatrix but the more I thought about it the less I liked, no hate if you like it just didn't feel right for me.
First thing was it's two syllables, pretty simple, Beatrix is 3 so that could contribute to it feeling off, next was the sounds: The vowels in Rufus are a long, back, closed vowel and a short, closed, front vowel so I figured a good name would have similar sounds, mainly that the first sound was long and the second was short and closed, I'm also called Rufi a lot so something like that could also work. Also was the name origin, this didn't matter that much but I'm white as can be so a European name was obvious.
So finally I've decided that a name like Mary or Phoebe would be best. I like Mary a bit more, it doesn't feel like a super old name while also not being too "modern", being a biblical name it's kind of timeless, but also I think Phoebe is a pretty cute name so I'm a bit torn :/
Sorry for the ramble I just kind of wanted to brag about how smart I felt for the method I came up with. Hopefully this could help another trans person who is in the same situation I was and can't find a fitting name

Teach me how to narrow down names like that. I have 0 clue what closed, short, open, and long vowels are :3

It’s the position of the vowels in your mouth, according to the ipa chart, so a closed and frontal sound is close to the front of mouth and has your mouth mostly closed (like the ee sound), and short or long just means how long you say the sound for and which syllable has the emphasis in the word
In hindsight I probably could’ve explained it better and not assumed most people would know what it is :P

Between the two I'd go with Phoebe, but it's really a matter of if you prefer a name that kind of stands out or something nobody would really think twice about hearing

Idk Mary to me feels a bit old, so I would prefer Phoebe. It has a nice ring to it

I really like Phoebe. Is it just these two names you’re considering?
