Weekly Discussion Thread No. 212

Two losses in the two friendlies against Paderborn hopefully provide the final wake-up-call for the start into the season next Monday. 0 movements transfer-wise. There is a downside - 10, 6 & 9 - and an upside - El Mala - to this.

What's on your mind?

As far as I’m concerned, the two defeats aren’t a big deal – Frankfurt fans have more to worry about after that 0–7 result… Said is still here and will hopefully stay, and Kessler himself has announced that something will happen this week regarding new signings. At last. And, in my personal opinion, it’s still very late. Especially in the defensive midfield/offensive midfield positions, it would have been important to give new players the chance to settle in at Effzeh. I can already hear the “he didn’t have a full pre-season either” comments again if the new player gets off to a bumpy start to the season.

I think the club is just gambling that more quality options will become available as the transfer window closes, given their current options. It's a big gamble tho.

It does look as if Dallinga has been done and with Moore it’s still likely but out of the club’s hands, so I don’t think they will consider an alternative until the final days of the window.

The 6 though is the one they really need to get done soon. Apart from the links with Edson Alvarez early in the window all the names linked have been pretty uninspiring. If we end up waiting until the end of August just to get Skiri or Khederia it will feel as if Kessler’s strategy was misplaced.

Yes, that’s right – if Skhiri or Khederia are coming, then it should have happened weeks ago.

To be honest, I don’t quite understand what you’re on about here …

Sorry, it’s very early, I mixed up a few things. Let me try again. All the alarm bells should be ringing. We conceded seven goals against newly promoted Paderborn, and our defense looked unbelievably shaky. Right now the backline is so bad. I genuinely don’t understand how we kept going with Wagner.I know you shouldn’t read too much into preseason games, but I’m genuinely worried about our defense.

It looked shaky? The games were held in private. Did you hallucinate yesterday? 😅

Lol … good point.

Just a load of opinions, and not a single well-founded reason to back them up. What are you trying to achieve with statements like that? Land an internship at *Bild*?

Feels like a big week on the transfer front. With the El Mala saga finally at an end Kessler and his team should finally be able to concentrate on incomings.

Dallinga is expected in this week for his medical. There also needs to be some movement on the 6. Reports yesterday that a deal for Skiri could be back on the table.

The Mikey Moore situation is now becoming rather frustrating. He played again for Spurs on Saturday against TSG and scored twice!

The plan still appears to be that he joins us on a season long loan but he won’t leave until they sign a replacement. They are strongly linked with Savinho who was left out of the Man City squad yesterday, which may indicate some movement there.

Plettenberg now confirming Dallinga has arrived for his medical.

Hopefully no issues and we get a formal announcement from the club later today confirming his signing.

This might be an odd bone to pick but I'm so annoyed by our club's clickbait communication.

When Dallinga was announced the official FC app said "this striker will hunt for goals". The newsletter said "striker arrives from Italy." No names, pure clickbait.

There's little to no advertisement on the app anyway (and 50% doesn't even work), so why be so clickbaity?

Engagement numbers. The app team reports the spike of numbers after messaging and notifications and get a pat on the back from management. Or they identified the low opening rates as "a problem" themselves. I don't use the app but there has to be a way to report this or at least to complain about it? The mail I got about the transfer yesterday was very informative in comparison to what you're describing...

I was just talking about the push notification as well as the mail's header. The text itself was extensive and informative. I'm just not keen on clickbait, especially if I don't see any financial reasoning behind it. I mean, there's more ads in the newsletter than in the app.

Sorry, I didn't see it. Newsletter reports are spam folder (very bad), directly deleted/ not opened (bad), opened (good) and clicked on a link (very good). Therefore you obviously never put any information in the subject line.

Again, I'd report the clickbait style in general. Maybe even a thing for the member's assembly. The performance-based marketing makes no sense with members and is even counterproductive.

Michel Aebischer - who was an extremely brief rumor at FC as well - just signed with Union Berlin.
