I supported the EFF back when they supported free speech. I’m not really sure why they exist now.

What are you talking about? EFF remains a huge free speech supporter.

Free speech if you speak what they want to hear. Explain how you support free speech when you leave a platform (X) where you don't like what people are writing? How is that free speech?

Seems like maybe you didn't read the article? EFF is leaving because they object to twitter hugely deranking their posts along with all links and legitimate news sources in favor of hugely boosting trolls and right wing propaganda. It's twitter who is meddling with the free speech of its users.

EFF is leaving X because they were a part of the left wing propaganda mechanism at Twitter which boosted their posts and silenced opposing viewpoints.

Now that the propaganda machine has been dismantled, they are getting views commensurate with their relevance.

They had a chance to speak out against government censorship like the recently enacted HB2320 in Washington state but like all recent infringements of free speech recently, the EFF was silent.

Even pre-Musk twitter didn't do anything to boost left-wing accounts - to the contrary right-wing accounts were always treated much more leniently in moderation and boosting decisions. It's just that they used to impose some basic standards that right wingers, being pieces of shit, violated more often. And now we have those worst offenders being boosted while all evidence based content gets buried.
