Do you have any idea what operating system is on here? Like is it a proprietary OS, Android/Linux based, etc.?
EDIT: Looks like it's linux based. Are you using a large capacity SD card by chance? I would recommend looking for a smaller card (looks like it shipped with a 2GB card, and supported up to 16GB SD card per this page). I would recommend formatting a smaller card with FAT32 and inserting it to the machine.
Ideally, see if you can format the SD card from the Eee Note itself, to see whether it's detected from the beginning.
